Although left-handed people only represent roughly 10% of the population, they have a great presence when it comes to achievements. It may seem as if the difference is mere which hand you would use as your dominant one. However, did you know that the side of your brain that you predominantly make use of also depends on your dominant hand? That’s right! If you are right-handed, you tend to make more use of the left side of your brain. Similarly, left-handed people principally use the right side of their brain.
So, is it better being a lefty or a righty? Although both types have their advantages and disadvantages, representing the minority of the population does come with its perks. Read on!
1. Lefties Are More Creative
The right side of the brain is used to express emotions, think as well as make use of intuition, whereas the left side of the brain is used for logical thinking, mathematical computations, and communication. Since lefties predominantly use the right side of their brains, they tend to be a lot more creative than their right-handed counterparts. After all, even the great Michelangelo was a lefty!
2. Lefties Are Better At Baseball

Now those of you who are not very familiar with the sport, baseball essentially involves swinging a bat and (hopefully) hitting the ball. If you successfully connect with the ball, you can run to the next base to score a point (called run) for your team. Now, it just happens to be that the very first base that you need to run to is on your right. Since a lefty swings a bat from left to right, he automatically faces the first base after a swing because of being carried by the momentum. This means that lefties gain an advantage in scoring runs for their team!
3. Lefties Are Better At Video Games
According to a study published in Neuropsychology, left-handed people are a lot better at grasping and reacting to external stimuli (1). This means that lefties are much quicker at reacting to changes in the environment around them. Since most video games test the player’s reaction time and ability to think quickly in various situations, having that slight upper edge can really make you a better gamer.
4. Lefties Earn More Money
According to a study conducted in the United Kingdom, left-handed people with a college degree earn 10 to 15 percent more money than their right-handed counterparts (2). This means that just by being a lefty, you already have a better chance of earning more money than your right-handed friends. What’s the catch? You need to be smart enough to get a college degree first!
5. Lefties Are Great At Solving Problems

Being a leader requires you to be great at solving problems and leading your subordinates in the right manner. Just by looking at the names of some of the left-handed presidents like Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, George Bush Sr. and Barack Obama as well as some of the great inventors of our time such as Benjamin Franklin and Henry Ford, you cannot help but wonder what seems to go on inside the mind of a left-handed person. Whatever it may be, they are not afraid to lead from the front and bask in the glory of their achievements.
Being a lefty most definitely gives you a better edge at various tasks.
If you happen to be left-handed, you must be feeling very excited at the moment. However, do not forget that, according to the Bible, left-handed people are the servants of the devil!
