Spread some spicy sauce on a few slices of whole-wheat bread and place chopped onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms and olives on top. Team up chopped walnuts, mashed banana, quick cooking oats, plain flour, vanilla essence, some sugar and some butter. Bake them up in small, individual cupcake holders- decorate with a generous helping of peanut butter (check for allergies) or Nutella!

They are packed with sesame seeds, white millet flour (jowar), red millet flour (nachni), chopped fenugreek (methi) leaves, grated jaggery (gur) and soya flour. Don’t let your kid fall into the trap of indulging in street food. Instead whip up veggie frankies quickly – your kid will tuck these in with delight! Mix together a spicy sauce and mayo with some shredded veggies (cabbage, carrots, bell peppers) and roll this mixture up in a roti(Indian bread). Heat some oil in a pan and lightly fry these frankiesfor 2 minutes on each side- ready!

Mix together a cup of boiled and grated potato, half a cup of carrot, a cheese cube, a slice of brown bread (soaked and squeezed), some ginger- chilly paste and coriander, and roll the mixture into tikkis. Shallow fry those till golden brown and you’re done!

Is your kid craving for something out of the box? Try this simple and nutritious sandwich recipe. Mix together a cup of grated apple, ¼th up of chopped dates, a cup of grated carrot and a couple of tablespoons of fresh cream, and spread it onto a slice of whole-wheat bread- yum!

Mix together some ginger-green chilly paste, chopped spinach, rice flour, cooked rice, carrots, green peas and onions in a small bowl, role the mixture into the shape of round balls, and deep fry until golden brown.

In a large bowl, mix together ¼ cup grapes, ¾ cup pineapple cubes, 1 cup papaya cubes, 1 cup apple cubes, 1 banana, cubed, 1 tsp chopped coriander, 1 tbsp date-tamarind chutney, ¼ tsp black salt, ½ tsp lemon juice, a few mint leaves and a pinch of salt and red chilly powder and serve!

This yummy uttappam (south Indian dish) dish is ready in just minutes, and uses sooji-which is healthy and nutritious. A cup of semolina (rava), mixed with 1 tbsp grated ginger, a cup of curd and some chopped onions, tomatoes and green chillies, when cooked as an uttappam and served with coconut chutney will have your kid licking his tiffin box clean!

12. Egg Idli Delight:

This is a healthy and nutritious meal for a school-going kid; just mix together a couple of scrambled eggs with black pepper powder, 4 chopped idlis (south Indian steamed dish), chopped capsicum, carrots and onions and spices and seasonings, and serve hot!
