  4. Cut 24 rounds from the pastry sheets, using a 6.5cm cutter.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a muffin tin or pie tin with grease and line a round in each case, such that it is in the shape of the muffin hole.
  6. Add one spoonful of the pie mix on top of each round. Top the mince mix with another round from the pastry sheet. Press the edges of the pastry sheets to secure the pie.
  7. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until the pies turn a golden brown. Swap the sides of the tray halfway through the timer.

How can a pirate-themed party be complete without the Jolly Roger? Here’s a recipe for our version of the pirate ship, a healthy one!

You will need:

  • One large watermelon
  • Melon-baller
  • One carving knife

How to make:

  1. Cut a thin strip of the watermelon and place it face-down on the table. This will keep the fruit stable.
  2. Draw a line one inch down from the top. Use a large carving knife to cut the fruit along the line. Make sure it is even.
  3. Draw a vertical line down, one and a half inches from the top edge of the watermelon. Draw another line parallel to that, around three inches away. Join the lines to form a rectangle and carve it out with a knife.
  4. Use the melon baller to remove the fruit out.
  5. Push a thick skewer into the fruit’s bowstring and pull it out from the other end, for the bowsprit. You can use the rings to cut out sails and use skewers to hold them in place.
  6. Fill the hollow of the watermelon ship with the melon balls, grapes, and cherries.
  7. Put it on the snack table and let the kids help themselves to a healthy pirate loot!
