10 Mouth-Watering Recipes For Baby Shower Cookies

What’s a baby shower without cookies! Cookies are a must-have in the menu for baby showers. And, if the mum-to-be has a craving for cookies, then why not?

If you know the gender of the baby, then you can customize the cookies for boys and girls. MomJunction has come up with some mouth-watering gender-specific recipes for baby shower cookies. Read them and begin baking!

Baby Shower Cookies For Boys

The simplest way to decide on your cookies is to align them with your baby shower theme. Here are some cookies for baby boys:

1. Vanilla button cookies

They are super cute and fun to have for a baby shower.

You will need:

  • Butter: 3/4 cup
  • Cheese: 3 ounces (oz)
  • Sugar: 1 cup
  • Egg: 1
  • Vanilla essence: 1 teaspoon (tsp)
  • All-purpose flour: 2 3/4 cups
  • Baking powder: 1tsp
  • Salt: 1/4tsp
  • Food colors

How to make:

  1. Mix butter, cheese, and sugar until it becomes fluffy.
  2. Add egg and vanilla essence and beat until you get a smooth texture.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix flour, salt, and baking powder and add it to the mixture. Mix it until it reaches a dough consistency.
  4. Divide the dough into two portions.
  5. Add different food color to each portion.
  6. Wrap it and refrigerate for two hours.
  7. After two hours, roll the dough to one-third inch thickness.
  8. Cut round shapes of 2 inches using a cookie cutter.
  9. Make another inner round edge (1.5 inches) using a smaller cookie cutter.
  10. Using a straw, make four holes in the center to look like a button.
  11. Place the button cookies on the baking tray and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
  12. Bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes.
  13. Let it cool on the rack after baking.

You can bake each batch with a different color.

2. Onesie cookies

Onesie cookies are common and yet popular for baby showers.

You will need:

  • All-purpose flour: 6 cups
  • Butter: 2 cups
  • Powdered sugar: 2 cups
  • Vanilla: 2tbsp
  • Sprinkles: just enough for all cookies
  • Piping bag

How to make:

  1. Mix butter and sugar until it becomes fluffy.
  2. To this mixture, add egg and vanilla essence and beat until you get a smooth texture.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix flour, salt, and baking powder and add it to the wet mixture. Mix it until it reaches a dough consistency.
  4. Refrigerate for 10 minutes.
  5. Roll out the cookie dough and cut out the onesies using a onesie cookie cutter.
  6. Arrange them on the baking sheet.
  7. Bake them at 180oF for 10-12 minutes.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the rack.
  9. Use white icing for the outline and fill the inner part with a different color. Use the scribe tool to spread out the icing.
  10. Let them dry for 2 hours.
  11. Pipe the letter of your baby’s name on each cookie and arrange them on a plate.
  12. Finish off the cookies with thick piping at the sleeves and bottom of the onesie.

3. Shortbread cookies

Cut out the cookie shapes in various shapes — little hearts, bottles, raindrops, etc.

You will need:

  • All-purpose flour: 260g
  • Unsalted butter (room temperature): 225g (1 cup)
  • Powdered sugar: 60g (1/2 cup)
  • Vanilla essence: 1tsp
  • Salt: 1/4tsp

How to make:

  1. Beat butter and sugar for 4 minutes in a bowl to get a smooth texture.
  2. Add the vanilla essence.
  3. Add the all-purpose flour and salt and mix only until the flour blends in with the butter and sugar to get a dough consistency.
  4. Wrap the dough in a plastic wrap and refrigerate it.
  5. Remove the dough after one hour and roll it out.
  6. Cut out the shapes using a cookie cutter.
  7. Line up the cut cookies on a baking sheet and refrigerate them for 10 minutes.
  8. Bake them in the oven at 350°F for 12-15 minutes.
  9. The cookies color changes to pale. Once baked place them on a wire rack and let them cool.

4. Mocha Sandwich Cookies

  • Whipping cream: 1-1/2tsp
  • Coffee powder: 1/2tsp
  • Sliced almonds: 2tbsp

How to make:

1. Beat butter and sugar in a big bowl until it becomes fluffy.
2. Add the vanilla extract.
3. Gradually add flour and cornstarch to the mixture. Mix just enough for the flour to combine to get a dough consistency.
4. Keep it in the fridge for one hour.
5. Make small roundels from the dough and flatten them slightly.
6. Place all the roundels on the baking sheet one inch apart.
7. Bake at 370oF for 10-13 minutes.
8. Once baked, cool them on the wire racks.
9. Spread the filling (read below) on a cookie and top it with another cookie.
10. Refrigerate for half-an-hour.

For filling:

  1. Beat butter and sugar until it becomes fluffy.
  2. In another bowl, mix cocoa, coffee powder, and boiling water. Mix until they dissolve.
  3. Add this to the butter-sugar mixture and mix.
  4. Add the almonds.
  5. Refrigerate it for half-an-hour.

You will need:

  • All-purpose flour: 4½ cups
  • Unsalted butter: 1½ cups
  • Sugar: 1½ cups
  • Baking powder: 1tsp
  • Salt: ¾tsp
  • Eggs: 3
  • Vanilla extract: ½tsp
  • For frosting:
  • Unsalted butter: 2 sticks
  • Powdered sugar: 3-4 cups
  • Vanilla essence: 1tsp
  • Lemon juice: 2tsp
  • Milk or cream as required

How to make:

  1. Mix the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl, and whisk. Put these dry ingredients aside.
  2. In a mixer, blend the butter and sugar, and beat together until you get a fluffy mixture.
  3. Beat the eggs one at a time into this and mix properly.
  4. Add the vanilla essence.
  5. Add the dry ingredients and mix it in low speed to get a dough consistency.
  6. Wrap the dough and refrigerate for one hour.
  7. Make small balls out of the dough.
  8. Flatten these balls and place them on the baking sheet.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 370°F for 10-12 minutes.
  10. Repeat the process with the remaining dough.

Note: Leave space of two inches between the cookies for rising. Do not overbake these cookies.

For frosting:

  1. In an electric mixer, beat the butter until creamy and fluffy.
  2. Add three cups of powdered sugar slowly and mix until it combines well and becomes thick.
  3. Add vanilla essence and one tablespoon of cream, and mix on medium-high until it becomes fluffy.
  4. Adjust the consistency by adding milk to make it thin or sugar to make it stiff.
  5. Add different food colors to the frosting separately.
  6. Load the piping bag with the frosting.
  7. Pipe the frosting on the cookies in layers in the shape of a rose. Use a different color of frosting for each cookie.

For the shells:

  • Almond flour: 3/4 cup
  • Sugar: 1 cup
  • Egg whites: 2
  • Tartar cream: A pinch
  • Powdered sugar: ½ cup

For buttercream:

  • Unsalted butter: 1 cup
  • Confectioners’ sugar: 3 1/2 cups
  • Different extracts for flavoring (optional)

How to make:

  1. Place two baking sheets with butter paper.
  2. Sieve almond flour and powdered sugar.
  3. Whisk egg whites with a hand mixer until fluffy. Add tartar cream and mix. Gradually add the sugar and beat.
  4. Sieve flour mixture over the egg white mixture.
  5. Fold the mixture with a rubber spatula and mix well. The batter should be stiff.
  6. Place gel food coloring in the mixture and mix well.
  7. Make bigger folds once the batter becomes loose. The batter is ready when it attains ribbon consistency.
  8. Transfer this mixture into a piping bag. Pipe out about one-and-a-half inch rounds on the baking sheet.
  9. Let them dry for 15 minutes so that it forms a crust.
  10. Bake the macaroons at 300°F for about 18-20 minutes.
  11. For the icing on the cookies, mix sugar with butter in a bowl, beat it until fluffy.
  12. If the batter is stiff, add milk to dilute it.
  13. Add vanilla essence and mix.
  14. Pipe the icing mixture on the macaroon shells and top them with the remaining shells.

How to make:

  • All purpose flour: 1 cup
  • Powdered sugar: 1/2 cup
  • Butter: 3/4 cup
  • Sugar: 1½ cups
  • Vanilla essence: 1tsp
  • Baking soda: 1tsp
  • Baking sheets
  • Onesie cookie cutter
  • Parchment paper
  • Paste food coloring
  • Piping tip
  • Royal icing
  • Sharp knife
  • Sprinkles or candies in blue or pink

How to make:

  1. Beat butter and sugar in a big bowl until it becomes fluffy.
  2. Add the vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add flour and to the mixture. Mix just enough for the flour to combine to get a dough consistency.
  4. Roll the dough to around one-fourth inch thickness. Cut out the cookies and place on the cookie sheets. Your final number of cut-out cookies should be a multiple of three.
  5. Refrigerate the cookies for an hour.
  6. Bake them at 370° F for 8 minutes until it turns slightly brown on the edges. Remove from the oven and cool them.
  7. Separate your batch into three portions. In one portion, cut out the middle of the cookies while they are still warm and cool them.
  8. Take the other portion of the cookies and pipe the outline on each cookie and fill the inside with royal icing and let them dry.
  9. Once the icing batch is ready, keep them at the top, and glue the other two batches of cookies to the icing cookie. Glue them with stiff icing, and let them dry.
  10. The bottom cookies are the last batch of cookies.
  11. The cookies that were cut in step 5 will be in the middle.
  12. Fill the inner portion of these middle cookies with sprinkles or candies (blue/pink based on the gender of the baby).
  13. You can add extra detailing on the top cookie such as ‘question mark’ and let it dry.
  14. Glue all the three cookies together and let them dry.

Make sure all your guests open them at the same time.

9. Cookie pops

A simple plain cookie can be converted to a gender-reveal cookie by adding a surprise element.

  • All-purpose flour: 4 cups
  • Salt: 1/2tsp
  • Salted butter: 1 1/2 cups
  • Powdered sugar: 1 1/2 cups
  • Eggs: 2
  • Vanilla extract: 2tsp

How to make:

  1. Whisk flour and salt in a bowl. Keep it aside.
  2. In a mixer, mix the butter and sugar. Gradually add the eggs and vanilla extract and beat until it is mixed well.
  3. Gather the mixture with a spatula and add the flour.
  4. Mix it until it just combines.
  5. Make two portions of the dough, flatten it, wrap, and refrigerate for one hour.
  6. Remove after one hour, and roll the dough on a flat surface.
  7. Using a cookie cutter, cut out the cookies.
  8. Place the cookies on the baking sheet.
  9. Insert the pop sticks 1 1/2” into the cookies gently. Be careful not to disturb the shape of the cookie.
  10. Refrigerate the cookies for one hour.
  11. Preheat the oven to 325°F and bake the cookies for 12 minutes.
  12. Remove the cookies once they turn brown.
  13. Cool them on the wire racks immediately.
  14.  Decorate the cookies with white royal icing.
  • Pipe a pink or blue circle in the center of the cookie. Let it dry for three hours.
  • Now cover the pink or blue circle using white icing. You can decorate the white with sprinkles or pipe ‘?’ on it to maintain the suspense.
  • Let it dry overnight.

10. Sugar cookies

Normal sugar cookies stuffed with pink or blue icing make a perfect gender-reveal cookie.

You will need:

  • Unsalted butter: 16tbsp
  • Brown sugar: 3/4 cup
  • Powdered sugar: 1/4 cup
  • Egg: 1
  • Vanilla extract: 2tsp
  • All-purpose flour: 2 1/3 cups
  • Baking soda: 1/2tsp
  • Baking powder: 1/2tsp
  • Salt: 1/2tsp
  • Coarse blue sugar: 1/4 cup
  • Coarse pink sugar: 1/4 cup
  • Choco chips: 8oz
  • Royal icing (pink/ blue)

How to make:

  1. Mix the butter and sugar until fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract.
  3. Sieve the dry ingredients, then slowly add the wet ingredients to it and mix until they just combine.
  4. Divide the cookie dough into equal portions.
  5. Place some coarse sugar (both pink and blue) in a small bowl. Roll the cookies in the coarse sugar. Place them on the baking sheet and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F and bake the cookies for 12 minutes until it turns brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and leave it on the baking sheet.
  8. When they ar still warm, insert the cone slowly into the cookie and pipe the pink or blue color icing.
  9. Cover the cookie with sprinkles or choco chips. Make sure it covers the colored icing completely and let it dry.
  10. To know the gender, break the cookie; you will see that it’s either blue or pink.
