Yes! It’s finally upon us. The Game of Thrones’ sixth season premier is just a week away, and fan theories have already begun to make the rounds. So, we decided to celebrate this cult classic in the only way we know how, by talking about some of the strongest mommies from the show. Here are our top five picks:
1. Lysa Arryn
Borderline lunatic for her lover Petyr Baelish, Lysa Arryn is one of those seemingly unimportant characters from the Game Of Thrones who accidentally changed the fate of the realm. As far as motherhood goes, she is a very indulgent and doting mother. The Lady Regent of Vale is fiercely overprotective of her 10-year-old son Robin Arryn. Her actions are influenced by her love for her son and the fear for his life. Now, isn’t that sweet?
2. Cersei Lannister

Anyone familiar with the Game of Thrones either loves or loathes Cersei Lannister. That love for her children is the driving force behind Cersei’s actions, as is fairly clear from the very start. She pampers her kids and indulges in their whims and quirks. Like a lioness, she’s also very protective of her children and wouldn’t stop at anything to fulfill their wishes, and leaves no stone unturned in ensuring their absolute safety.
3. Catelyn Stark

The auburn haired beauty and Ned Stark’s lady love is a perfect mother. She knows the importance of imbibing family values and virtues in her children. Needless to say, the safety of her children takes priority over everything else for her. Although vaguely resentful of the admission of Ned’s bastard son, Jon Snow into the Stark family, Lady Stark never let’s maternal instinct get the better of her. Being the brave and brainy mom that she is, she also guided her eldest son Rob through the nuances of politics and warfare.
4. Selyse Florent

Seemingly, one of coldest moms on the series. Selyse gave birth to Shireen Baratheon. All of her sons were stillborn and princess Shireen was born with grayscale. Selyse often seems rigid and resentful towards her only child. But her internal suffering and true feelings for her daughter do come to the fore after the princess is torched for the apparent greater good. Her daughter’s painful demise caused her so much pain that she immediately ended her own life.
5. Daenerys Targaryen

Saving the best for the last, we bring you Daenerys Targaryen. Quite an unconventional mom, to say the least. This powerful woman is the, wait for it, mother of a dragon! Yes, as outrageous as it may sound, she had three dragon kids. Instead of being intimidated by their strength and powers, she proves to be a doting mom. Despite having to make difficult decisions in the upbringing of her children, she never left their side and did her best to make sure they grow to their full potential.
