Certain outfits, like a saree, can be easily adapted to your condition. All it needs is a little bit of tweaking in the wearing style a bit here and there to accommodate your growing shape. And voila! You are ready sashay down in your favorite saree. So, here are a few tips on how you can wear it during pregnancy, that too in style!

1. Pick The Right Fabric

Unlike earlier occasions, your comfort level should be on top of the list while choosing the fabric of your saree. With your belly already itching and the skin more prone to irritations, choose a light-weight, breathable fabric. Do not wear heavy sarees that might make it difficult for you to carry it off. Avoid synthetic fabrics or ones that have rough edges so that they do not trigger any sort of irritation or allergy.

2. Avoid Embellishments

Avoid sarees that have a high amount of embellishments or sequins. This is because, apart from becoming difficult to wear, they may get entangled when you move around. The sharp edges of the sequins may cause irritation to your skin or make it uncomfortable for you to sit in for a long period of time. They can also cause minor cuts and bruises on your skin.

3. Use A Belly Band

One of the biggest fear a pregnant woman might have when she’s wearing a saree is of tripping over. To address this, it is a safe option to use a pregnancy belly band. These bands are specifically made for pregnant women and do not cause any sort of irritation. They also come in various colors. Go for a neutral shade that blends effortlessly with the color of your saree.

4. Get A Helping Hand

When you are pregnant, it is obvious that you’ll be unable to bend over to adjust your sari pleats. Likewise, it may also be difficult to get a hold of your saree to drape it around you. Get someone to help you with this. Also, make sure that the person helping you drapes it slightly high so it is easy for you to walk around. If the saree is draped low, your feet might get tangled in the saree, which might prove dangerous.

5. Experiment With The Blouse

If you wish to hide your baby bump, then you can give the regular blouse a miss. Instead, experiment with different types of long blouses that are in vogue nowadays. You can also experiment with the fusion look by teaming your saree with either a western crop top, a long cape, or a lightweight jacket.

6. Avoid The Bump

With a big baby bump, it might be a tad difficult to find the right position to tie the saree petticoat. This position is very important to retain the required grip on the saree so that it doesn’t unfurl. The ideal position would be to tie your saree either below or above your baby bump, but not on it. This will ensure that the saree doesn’t slip out of place.

7. Try A Different Draping Style

While a regular pallu over the shoulders is generally preferred, you could give different draping styles a shot. These styles may also be easy to handle compared to the regular one where the pallu is not under your control. You can try the Gujarati style where the pallu is entirely in the front. The Coorgi style requires the saree to fully drape the upper body with the corner of the saree tucked over the shoulder, back to front. Or, you could also go for a fuss-free, less-pleated Bengali style of draping.

8. A Trial Run Is A Must

Once you have zeroed in on your choice of saree, blouse, and the style of draping, make sure you try it out at least a day before the D-day. In fact, once you’ve done a trial drape, try to walk or sit around a bit to get a hang of the outfit. By doing so, you’ll be better prepared to deal with any faux pas when you will be wearing it for the actual occasion.

We hope these tips come handy when you wear a saree for that special occasion. Here’s wishing that you look like a million bucks when you eventually do so. Good luck!
