Are you going to be a new parent? If you are, we know that it’s almost impossible for you to explain what you’re feeling these days. The news of pregnancy has surely turned your life into a completely different road now and it’s normal to feel a bit nervous even if you’re happy beyond reasons. New parents have a million doubts and concerns on their mind. And no matter how much they read about things, new questions keep popping up.

Parenting starts much before your baby is born and teamwork is the most important factor involved in good parenting. This means that if you’re freaking out because you’re tired of the morning sickness, your husband has to be there to support you and if he is freaking out about being a dad, you need to tell him that “sweetie, I think you’re going to do fine.” You need to continue with this teamwork for the rest of your life even when taking care of the baby soon after he/she is born and also in the future. So, it’s a great practice to start discussing things and letting each other take up equal responsibility in the parenting task from the very beginning.

Here are some of the vital points that you need to ponder upon if you’re going to have a baby soon:

Take Care Of Your Health

Often, it becomes difficult for us to find time to take care of ourselves because of the hectic schedule that we follow in our day-to-day life. Being pregnant can put a lot of pressure on the mother and the father which is why both the parents need adequate rest. A woman’s body goes through a lot of changes while she’s pregnant and you need to make sure that you take care of your body to meet the requirements posed by these changes. The health of the mother is the health of a family (1). So, make sure that you take care of yourself before and after the delivery.

Get All The Right Information That You Can

Since you and your husband are new to pregnancy and parenting, read up. Try to make a list of all the doubts that you have so that you can ask your doctor about them whenever you have an appointment. You can also ask the doctor to suggest you books related to pregnancy, delivery of the baby, and taking care of the newborn. You’re going to be pregnant for almost 40 weeks and that’s a lot of time to sink in all the necessary information.

Think Ahead Of Time

Both you and your partner need to think ahead of time and prepare for what is going to come next. For example, get your place secured for a pregnant woman to live in as soon as you find out about the pregnancy. This means no slippery floors and no climbing a lot of stairs. Once you’re in the first trimester, think of all the things that you will be needing when you’re in the second and third trimesters. Get them and set things ready because you won’t be able to walk around shopping as easy as you think. Get the clothes and things for the hospital packed at least a few weeks before your due date. Also, get all the necessary things like a bassinet and a changing station before you bring the baby home.

Make sure to get your facts right because the last thing you would want to face is an unwanted complication during pregnancy. Daddies, you may have to step up and help the mommy in household chores and almost everything else no matter how busy you are; you cannot stick to your regular routine when you’re expecting a baby. Try to keep a calm mind and whenever you feel that you are freaking out, talk to someone who already had babies like your parents, siblings, or friends – that’s going to help you a lot in taking better directions.
