1. Gang
The gang- Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust, and Sadness, live in the Headquarters, the control center in Riley’s mind. These feelings lead her to her daily life. Tell your child to color these emotions with lovely hues.
2. Joy
Joy is the protagonist of the film. She is the chief emotion residing in the mind of Riley. Joy appears to be happy and full of energy all the time. She always sees the good of every side, which makes her oblivious to the other emotions. She represents the changes happening in Riley’s life and prevents these changes from taking place. She is the most positive of all emotions and the least flexible. Joy also shares a special bond with Riley as it is the first emotion that materializes in her mind.
3. Fear
Fear represents the voice of caution. The main job Fear has is to protect Riley and keep her safe. He always looks for potential problems and spends most of his time evaluating possible risks, pitfalls, and dangers involved in Riley’s everyday life. Just like all the other emotions, even Fear took a back seat during Riley’s childhood. But after moving to San Francisco, Fear became a prominent part of her life.
4. Sadness
Sadness is one of the emotions in Riley’s mind. She is the second emotion to come into Riley’s mind, appearing around 30 seconds after Joy. Sadness is the voice of reason. Whenever Joy puts forward an idea, Sadness tries to drag her down. She appears depressive all the time, but there are some instances where you will see her smiling. Sadness wants to be optimistic and keep Riley happy but finds it hard to be positive. She feels that lying on the floor and having a good cry is the best thing to do. But the fact is that sadness is quite intelligent and rather thoughtful in her sluggishness.
5. Disgust
Disgust is quite possessive and protective of Riley. She criticizes the shape of the new house, the smell, the dirt, and the misery of
their situation. Disgust lacks patience and has high expectations for everyone around her. She is extremely honest and highly opinionated. She keeps a careful watch over people, things, and places. Disgust also refuses to lower her standards. Despite having strong opinions about herself, Disgust trusts the choice of Joy.
6. Anger
Anger is a vital emotion in Riley’s mind. He is the reader of “The Mind Reader”, a newspaper that generates the events happening in Riley’s life. Anger cares passionately about fairness. He knows that the group tries hard, but they don’t understand how to make things work, so he stays on top of everything. And he makes sure that things are fair for Riley. Anger is quite comfortable with his rage. In fact, it makes him happy. But if you push him too much, his head top bursts into flames.
7. Riley
Riley is the principal character of “Inside Out”. She is an 11-year-old girl, who loves to play hockey. Riley’s happy and simple life comes to a halt when her family shifts to San Francisco. There, she experiences various changes in her life. Riley’s mind is the primary setting of the film. The narrator narrates the film from the point of view of her emotions. During the stay at Minnesota, Riley was a cheerful girl dominated and controlled by Joy. Her personality composed of honesty, hockey, friends, family, and her goofy side. But things changed when she shifted to San Francisco.
8. Bing Bong
Big Bong is Riley’s imaginary friend, existing within her mind. He entered her mind when she was three years old. Bing Bong is naïve in both personality and appearance. Big Bong’s body is of cotton candy. He has an elephant trunk and a cat’s tail. Bing Bong cries candy whenever he is sad and upset. Riley would play all sorts of games with Bing Bong when she was three. But she stopped playing with him when she turned four. Since then, Bing Bong has been errant, out of work, and misses the time when he was best friends with Riley.
9. Riley’s Dad
Riley’s father is the coach of Riley’s hockey team. He moves to San Francisco and starts working for Brang, a tech startup company. As soon as he starts working for his new company, work starts consuming him and he becomes distant from his family. He shares the same emotions as Riley, but his feelings are male and have his mustache. The most dominating emotion in his is anger. He loves his daughter and wife but does not seem to understand them. He nevertheless remains a loving father.
10. The Headquarter
This coloring page shows the emotions at work in Riley’s mind, i.e. the headquarters. The Headquarters is home to Riley’s emotions- Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust, And Sadness. It is where her memories are produced. The place establishes a direct connection between Riley’s mind and the outside world.
