Sandwich Decoration Ideas for Kids

No matter how tasty a sandwich is, you cannot make your kids eat it unless you make it look appealing. Decorating sandwiches can seem like a task, but it needn’t be. We have a few easy sandwich decoration ideas you can try to make food more likable by kids.

  1. Make a simple face on the sandwich using marinara sauce or even ketchup.
  1. If you are making an open face sandwich, arrange the toppings to make a smiley face. For example, you can use olives or raisins for eyes, carrot sticks as nose, and a cherry or a strawberry for the mouth or lips.
  1. An easy way to make sandwiches interesting is to use a shape-sandwich cutter to create uniquely shaped sandwiches your child would like. You can also hand-carve simple shapes like a plane, a star, or a heart using a knife.
  1. When making a cream cheese cucumber sandwich, you could place the cucumber slices on the sides, like ears, and throw in olives for eyes and nose.
  1. Try to use different fruits instead of one variety in a sandwich. That makes the sandwich more colorful.

Sandwich decoration need not take extra time or money. All you need to do is use whatever fillings you have in a creative way.

Make a Healthy Sandwich

The fillings are what make a sandwich. That said, you cannot put just anything between two slices of bread and call it a sandwich. Here are some of the most popular and time-tested fillings for making a tasty sandwich for kids.

  • Cold meats like ham, turkey, bacon, pepperoni, sausages, roast beef, pulled pork, chicken, and lamb
  • Eggs
  • Seafood like tuna and prawn
  • Cheese: you can try different varieties of cheese in a sandwich; cheese and dairy alternatives like tofu also taste good in a sandwich.
  • Fruits including berries, green apple, pears, and grapes
  • Nuts
  • Veggies like beets, carrots, potato, corn, onion, tomato, lettuce, peppers and more

You can eat these fillings raw or cook them to your child’s liking. However, care should be taken when combining two ingredients: think about how they would taste separately and then think about how they might taste together. You’ll have your answer there!
