Saluting The 5 Special Women In Your Life Who Make Women’s Day Worth Celebrating

It’s such a blessing to be a woman! Only women have the power and the anatomy to bear children. Isn’t it a beautiful thing to grow a small human within your womb? There’s more to it. It’s the number of roles a woman can play in her lifetime – a daughter, sister, mother, aunt, friend, mentor, teacher – all rolled into one. Then there’s an emotional quotient attached to her. They say a woman thinks with her heart and not her head. It’s perhaps an understatement, as this is what makes a woman warm and gentle – the quintessential for emotional healing. The society needs her. Women are the fulcrum of the society. They are the glue that binds a family together. It’s her fortitude and the ability to sacrifice her interests for her loved ones that make her worthy of admiration.

Being a woman myself, I know how one must value womanhood. At the same time, there are a good number of women who have cast major influences on me and whom I can’t thank enough. I bet you too share a mutual respect with your women folk and look up to quite a few of them. Here are the top five women who are certainly worth celebrating on Women’s Day:

1. Your mother

Who can match up with the patience that she has displayed throughout? You scrambled up to her when she needed to pay attention to other important things, but she never forbade you from meddling with her tasks. Spilled that milk, broke that pickle jar, forgot to turn off the lights in the bathroom, skipped your homework, been a fussy eater, didn’t pay attention to what she is talking, and worse – argue with her or yell at her – she will take it all with a pinch of salt. Her anger lasts only for a while, soon to be overcome by remorse. No wonder, the role of a mother is the best and mankind will reckon with and put her on the altar worth worshiping!

2. Your teacher

For some reason, female teachers connect better with tiny school-goers. They display the warmth and affection towards children that women naturally have. Not that male teachers are worse, but logical thinking and understanding the psyche of a child is predominant in men. Women, on the other hand, can easily put their students in the shoes of their own children and see the world through their eyes. Recall your teacher from your primary school. She sure lingers in your mind because part of you is what she had molded!

3. Your grandmother

Your mother’s love could be unconditional, but how could your granny fall behind? You always sought her refuge when your mother was angry at you. You got your candies from her that your mom denied you. She told you the bedtime stories. She told you jokes about your mom or dad while they were growing up. She was the one you always wanted to snuggle with when you wanted to feel warm and cozy as she gave out her pearls of wisdom to you. It’s because of your grandmother that you came to love those wrinkles and freckles. Thank your grandmother because you came to honor old age because of her.

4. Your sister

She always turns out to be your best friend and your well-wisher. Sisters are terrific friends for life. Want to hang out somewhere, your sister will make the best company. Bored, your sister will crack you up. Want to go for an interview, your sister will escort you. Have a date with the man of your life, your sister will come to assess if he is right for you. You will be in each other’s hearts even when you make families of your own. She will perhaps be your gateway to your soul – who can read your mind and give an answer through her eyes. The best part is it’s only you who can decipher your code language.

5. Your nanny

How on Earth can you forget your nanny who was by your side when your mommy got busy? It’s worth capturing her pictures too, so they remain with you when you are all grown up. I have a picture of mine clicked with my nanny as a three-month-old. I would probably do her wrong in not acknowledging how significant her help turned out when you look back. Sure your nanny will help you sail through the follies of childhood.

The major influences come through these women, but there never will be a dearth of women you highly regard. This Women’s Day tell us stories about the women you cherish the most!
