The Winter Dry Skin Struggle is Real (And I Finally Figured Out Why)

Every winter, same story. Reyansh’s skin gets dry and rough, especially his elbows and arms. By November, we do the usual winter routine: moisturizers, oils, humidifier, but this year nothing seemed to work well enough..

This year though? Nothing was working. His elbows stayed rough, his arms were dry . I was honestly getting frustrated.

At playschool pickup, I was chatting with another mom about random stuff—how cold it’s gotten, indoor heating being terrible for skin, the usual. She mentioned her daughter’s skin was doing so much better this winter.

“What are you doing differently?” I asked, because obviously I needed all the tips.

“I switched her soap,” she said. “Sounds random, but regular soap was making the dryness worse. Soap-free has helped a lot.”

I paused. “Wait, the soap is the problem?”

She explained that in winter, skin can lose moisture faster, and using regular soap may leave it feeling drier because of its alkaline nature. .

It’s like… we’re creating the problem and then frantically trying to solve it. Every single day.

A gentle, soap-free, pH-balanced cleanser worked better for her child.  . Especially in winter when it needs all the help it can get.

Finding Something Different

Next time I was at a pharmacy, I picked what that mom had recommended –Tedibar*  — it’s 100% soap-free & is trusted as No. 1 Pediatrician Prescribed brand which gave me that confidence to try it.

The First Few Weeks

The first bath felt different mainly because of the mild lather. Reyansh didn’t notice, but I did. Over the next few weeks, his skin felt more comfortable and not as rough as earlier. The improvement was gradual, along with our usual winter care routine.

Would I Recommend It?

If you are dealing with winter dryness, it may help to look at the cleansing step. Gentle, soap-free cleansing can support the skin during dry months. Winter care isn’t always about adding more products, sometimes it’s about choosing options that help maintain the skin’s natural comfort during the bath itself.
