There's A Lot Of Science Involved In Clicking Your Baby Bump

We all want to capture the most precious moments of our lives. Well, if you are following the selfie trend, then even sitting on the pot could classify as THE MOMENT. But if you are pregnant and you want to let loose images of that beautiful baby bump, then let us tell you how.

Have you had a chance to see the 50 awkward pregnancy portraits? Well if you have, then like me, you may have a tough time getting those images out of your head. Seriously, WTF!

First let me tell you what not to do.

  • Don’t try complicated poses (like your spouse’s head under your belly)
  • Avoid weird backdrops featuring baffled relatives or friends or even pets!
  • If you or your spouse can’t act surprised, then don’t.
  • Avoid carrying firearms. And avoid having them pointed at you. It’s really not funny!
  • There is no reason to pose naked alone or with your spouse. The world doesn’t need to know how intimate you are!
  • Don’t try to do a Kim Kardashian kind of a shoot. Even if you are blessed with a big butt.
  • Kinky is good in your bedroom. Keep it that way!
  • Avoid costumes unless you want a future in the circus!
  • Avoid tight clothes that focus on your not-so flattering areas.
  • Avoid posing like the star cast of a super hero movie! OR Any costume movie!
  • Don’t try to pose for a Victoria’s Secret campaign. This is not the time!

This is the time you feel special and you want to share it with your family and friends. Try to capture the bond between you and your spouse through candid shots. You can either hire a professional or get an acquaintance to do it.

  • Choose a good location. Outdoor works just fine – a lovely garden, beach or your front porch (if it is well maintained).
  • If you want to do it indoors, then make sure the place is well lit up.
  • Hold hands with your spouse, hold each other, take a walk on the beach, rest or read together on a bench (how cozy and romantic is that?)
  • Don’t just focus on the baby bump alone. Let the focus be on you as a whole!
  • Want to include your older kids? Let them hug you and kiss you like they do every day. Keep it au naturel!
  • Same as the above with your pet ;-)
  • Take pictures of the family spending time together, playing and interacting.
  • Silhouettes shots look stunning too.

These are just a few tips but you whatever you do make sure you double check, before sharing it with the whole world. Personally, I like to keep my memories of that time private but if you have some lovely pictures that you need to share on the social media, do go ahead and post. Hopefully you will be getting plenty of likes and shares instead of being unfollowed ;-)

Thanks to Instagram, you can also edit your pictures with some cool lighting effects thereby adding more character to it. You can certainly play it safe by hiring a professional photographer who specializes in pregnancy portraits – an Annie Leibovitz of Preggyland! That will certainly take the load out of your hands and the likelihood of ending up with some boring Polaroid is negligible.

So, if you are planning to get a pregnancy shoot done, do look at what’s going on and about in the field before venturing out clueless. If you are feeling tired, then get the man of the house to do some research for you! After all, what’s in the belly is 50 per cent his. And don’t forget these memories captured on camera are going to stay with you a long time and once junior is all grown up, he or she likely to have an opinion on how they were represented in the shot.

You can also practice some poses in front of the mirror before D-day. The results may not be air brush perfect as Marion Cotillard for Dior but every mum-to-be is truly beautiful in her own skin. So go ahead and strike a pose!
