This Is What A Dad Looks Like When He's Got A Newborn At Home

So, you have a newborn at home! If your baby has just arrived – congratulations! However, if it has been a while, say more than two weeks since the arrival, then welcome to the Newborn Haze Club!!

For those who came in late, it simply means that you are already getting a hang of the grind that comes with having a newborn at home. Sleepless nights, messed up daily routines, and what not. And no matter how much domestic help you have at hand, you’ll still need to be a hands-on mom and a hands-on dad. However, as unfair as it may seem, our discussions about babies or parenthood are often from a new mother’s perspective. Thus, we end up sidelining the role of a new father in the entire process.

But some recent pictures and videos of Prince William at a memorial service brought the father’s role back under the spotlight. As we all know, Prince William became a father for the third time. Already a father to two toddlers, it was evident that the Prince wasn’t new to experiencing the haziness. However, this was the first time, perhaps, when the Prince was captured in his ‘fatherhood glory’.

The event we are talking about here is the commemorative memorial service for the ANZAC Day. It is a national day of remembrance, both in New Zealand and Australia. It honors those who died while serving during global conflicts or wars. Prince William, along with the new royal couple in tow, younger brother Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle, made it to the service at dawn. Needless to say, his sincere efforts to stay alert during the entire service was on full public display. On one hand, his royal protocol demands him to be at his best behavior, especially during his royal duties. On the other, he cannot be exempted from his duties on the grounds of parenthood responsibilities as well. So, no paternity leaves either! No wonder then, that he was even caught dozing off for a couple of seconds every now and then during the entire service.

In his defense (which is completely justified), Prince William may be a royalty, but he is human after all! This means that even royalty cannot be immune to the challenges of parenthood and the newborn haze. What’s more, when his pictures and videos went viral, a lot of people on social media could actually relate to him. Most of them found him adorable and commended his efforts. Some even supported him wholeheartedly. We mean, here is a royalty, at a royal event, making ‘royal’ efforts to abide with his rulebook. All this while still trying to be the loving father that he is – a fact he may want to shy away from letting the world know. Kudos!!

A father might not carry a baby for 9 months, but he is equally involved, if not less, in this journey toward parenthood. Fathers are equally excited about the new member arriving in the family. So, after delivery, if a new mother is advised to take things slow, the new father will make sincere efforts to pitch in. Most things come naturally to a woman, like caring and nurturing. No wonder then that they quickly adapt to things like diaper changes and baby-feeding. But if a man does such activities with equal elan, it simply means he has put in some real hard work behind it.

This is why Prince William’s momentary lapse from royalty to commonness made him more enduring to the public. Every father and even mother could identify with him. And why only Prince William, a recent picture of his wife Kate also went viral. She was trying hard to keep her composure while disciplining her kids in public. Every mother out there felt like a royal princess after seeing that picture. This is probably why the general public simply loves both of them.

So, let us raise a toast to Prince William and all those dads around the world reeling under the newborn haze and still keeping at it! Well done boys!
