7 Ways A Stay-At-Home-Mom Can Save Her Sanity

For moms who gave up their careers or chose to stay at home to rear their little musketeers, stopping work ushers in many changes, and it could be harder than your thought. All your preconceived notions about not having to bear morning rush hour traffic, working hard at office, dash home and be satiated with a quick meal – the seemingly ‘hard days’ of your career will seem far and distant, and initially even appealing. But when you become a stay-at-home mom, you probably know, through your or others experiences, that being full-time is one of the toughest parts you can play. But here is how a stay-at-home mom can take control of her sanity:

1. Ask For Help

There is nothing to be ashamed about when it comes to seeking advice about handling for your children. There won’t be much that you can do as a new mom. Remember to ask for help. Don’t try to do everything by yourself. Ask your husband, your relatives, or friends to assist you with the chores, in the kitchen or the lawn while you spend your time nursing. If you have a toddler, you know the ruckus he can kick up; it could be hard for you to save the house that your kids are trying to bring down!

2. Invite A Friend

There are times when the house goes silent when the kids have dozed off. In fact, these are the best times when you should call a friend and ask her to come over for tea. It’s good to see other people apart from your kids during your house arrest, after all!

3. It’s OK To Let The Chores Wait

Sure, there is a pile of laundry, heaps of cutlery, patches of weeds on the lawn, and stuff gathering dust – but it doesn’t mean that you should attend to every chore while caring for your kid. Being organized is great, but not at the expense of ruining your health. Let things rest – they can always be cleaned. Maybe not in an hour, but surely when the time is right. Remember to sit back and enjoy your favorite beverage and listen to soothing music.

4. Break Out Of The House-Arrest

Who said you must be confined indoors? Go out. Take your children along. Get some groceries done. If it’s too much to do with kids around, then only go for a walk in the park, take them to an ice-cream parlor or bring them to a health club where they could begin taking tiny steps towards sports while you have a spa done. Going out is quite uplifting for your mood. A change of scene is stimulating for both your and your baby.

5. Eat Well

Moms end up cooking for all but are pathetic when it comes to feeding themselves. No sooner does she take the first bite, she hears her baby crying or trying to climb onto the kitchen counter. And she must save the food for later – of course, the children won’t let her eat when she has to. So, how do you work around it? Well, eat while your little one sleeps, or keep your baby occupied while you can have a relaxed meal. And guess what, it’s not at all a bad idea to have someone home to take over for a while you eat.

6. Get That Much Deserved Sleep

Afternoon naps aren’t all that bad, provided you don’t care much for the tasks that wait for you. Honestly, there is no deadline set for you. You are in charge of your home. So do catch up with the little sleep you had from the previous night or the overworked days.

7. Look For Ways To Relax

Watch the much-awaited film or read the works of your favorite author. Go swimming. Meditate. Breathing exercises help release endorphins, which relax your body and put you in a happy mood. So, hit the gym or sign up for some aerobics. While you ask your husband to take care of the kids. You will be surprised that you will be motivated for most parts of the day.

Staying at home for active moms can be challenging, especially if they have been preoccupied with a vocation. But with bringing these teeny-weeny changes, your days as a stay-at-home-mom could be quite fulfilling.
