Picture this: You and your partner have been together for several years. You have always seen him with a full beard. Suddenly he appears in front of you with a clean-shaven face. You will most likely be thrown off by how different he looks without his beard. And it’s safe to say it will take some adjustment to get used to his new face.
Now imagine a baby going through the same thing. They might not have fully learned how to communicate and express their feelings. Your baby is relying on his/her senses of touch, smell, hearing, taste, and sight. Babies recognize their caretakers by voice and their looks. So, if you’ve ever seen a baby cry after seeing their dad without his beard, it’s most likely because they are alarmed and confused by this new change. They might feel that it’s Daddy, but something might not add up because that’s not exactly how Daddy looks. So, the crying could be a result of how anxious and upset they are with this new change. Parents are their safe haven. Babies depend on their mom and dad for everything. In a world that is constantly changing, their mom and dad are probably the only constants they have in their life. So, when they cannot recognize Dad anymore, it could be quite a stressful situation for them.

It’s no secret that facial hair can completely transform a person’s look. But this Texas dad had no idea how much it would upset his daughter when she sees his new look.
JC Marshall, a dad from San Antonio, Texas decided to film a video of his 7-month-old daughter playing peekaboo in his lap. He shot two clips to capture his daughter’s reaction before and after getting rid of his facial fuzz. In the first clip, his daughter, Anistyn Claire can be seen cheerfully looking at her dad every time he pops out from behind the blanket and having a fun time. But when he plays the same game after shaving off his beard, you can see the bemused look in the tiny tot’s face. As her dad tries to give her a cuddle, the little one refuses to meet her dad’s gaze. Soon, she bursts into tears.
The Texas dad had grown out his beard for a few months following his layoff from a company. However he then decided to go for a haircut and a clean shave for 3 reasons: he had a job interview, his wife let him know she likes it much shorter, and his 7-month-old daughter liked to pull on his beard. The husband and wife duo decided to take a video to capture their little one’s reaction. And the rest is history.

Jeremey Batiz had sported a beard most of his adult life. His wife, Sofia had seen her husband only once without his beard. Jeremy, a 32-year-old contracting officer decided to surprise his family, including his 14-month-old daughter Amelia by going for a clean-shaven look. He asked his wife to get the camera rolling to capture Amelia’s reaction. Amelia was really skeptical of this new man in her house and took almost half a day to realize that it was indeed her dad. Jeremey did all the things he would do with her daughter like getting the mail. But it wasn’t until he started reading one of her favorite books that she finally understood who it was. Jeremy’s wife Sofia says that it wasn’t just his daughter, but his 11-year-old son and she also took some time to adjust to his new look.
