What lies in a name? Quite a lot actually. You don’t want a name that has lost its charm or doesn’t have a nice meaning. No name stays in trend forever, but there may be few names which you would want to avoid simply because they’ve been used way too often. Here are some:

Matthew originally refers to the Hebrew God. Matthew was also the author of the first gospel of the New Testament. It’s been used for ages. You might even know a great grandpa with this name. We’re sure you can think of another name for your baby now.

There’s no doubt that Aishwarya is a beautiful name, but it’s also one of the most common names that we can think of. We all know at least one Aishwarya in our lives. You don’t want to give a name to your daughter which is so commonly used that she probably won’t be the only Aishwarya in her school class.

Shilpa means sculpture or statue. It is a Hindi or Sanskrit name which has been used for decades. Shilpa doesn’t make the cut for a unique beautiful name, and that’s why we think it’s a name that no one will probably use this year.

Jacob is a common Christian name given to a boy. Though Jacob has a good ring to it, it is one name that’s been used since ages. You don’t want anyone to associate your boy with a middle-aged man when they hear the name.

Sheila derives its meaning from the word Latin Caelia, which means heavenly. It is a common feminine name that has lost its popularity.

Though not a very common name, Lola comes under this list because of its meaning. It’s better not to give your baby a name which doesn’t have a good meaning. Lola is a feminine name given in Spanish, and German, among other languages. Lola translates to “sorrows” or the “lady of sorrows”.

The name Donna gets its origin from Italy. It is a feminine name which means woman in Italian. Donna hasn’t been in the list of popular names for a long time.

Anita is short for Anahita, who is the Iranian goddess of water. It is derived from Hannah, which is a Hebrew name. Anita means grace or kindness. Though this name comes with a beautiful meaning, not everyone is a fan of the name.

Das is an Indian and Bangladeshi name among Hindus and Sikhs. It has lost its popularity long back, and rightly so! It still holds its place as a common last name. Das is one of the worst names that you can think of giving to your boy. The name Das translates to servant or slave, and we’re sure no parent would want that for their child.

There are countless Indian movies where the hero goes by the name of Raj. It is a Sanskrit name, meaning king or prince. The word raj directly translates to rule. Though it was a quite popular name in the 90s, it has not been in trend for a long time. But you never know when it can find its way back.

Ashley was quite a popular name in the mid-1980s till the 2000s and was primarily a boy’s name. But its glory days are over, and we no longer find people naming their kids Ashley.

We find ourselves getting annoyed when someone mispronounces or misspells our name. We remember people by their names, and no matter what people say, you don’t want your kid to shy away when somebody asks them the meaning of their name, or simply their name.
