Most of you remember this movie as one that showcases an innocent college romance. But do you remember Jay’s mom? She was a super cool and understanding mother who supported her son and stood up for him where it mattered. She was even open to discussing his relationships with him. Aditi, played by Genelia D’Souza, also had understanding parents who were not only super chill with her but gave her friends solid advice too. Who did you like better, Jay’s mom or Aditi’s parents?

2. Jennifer Kapur In Kal Ho Naa Ho

If you’ve watched this movie, you probably will remember it for life. With stars like Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan, this Karan Johar movie was a super hit film that most of us have watched while growing up. It’s worth mentioning here because of the role Jaya Bacchan plays in it. She plays Preity Zinta’s mother, Jennifer Kapur who is quite the superstar. She single-handedly takes care of her family by running an Indian restaurant and constantly protects her children from her ever-ungrateful mother-in-law.

3. Rani’s Parents In Queen

Another movie that breaks stereotypes and a whole lot of regression, Queen is empowering and an inspiration to women everywhere. Rani, who is played by the talented and bold Kangana Ranaut, goes on her honeymoon alone after her fiance breaks off their engagement at the last minute. Even though she belongs to a small town that lacks open-minded people, her parents support her choice of going away on her own despite their concern for her safety. They understand that she needs to get over her heartbreak and stand by her choices. Hailing from a small town, that would not have been easy but they put the needs of their daughter before society and that speaks volumes about how awesome they are as parents!

4. The Kakkars In Band Baaja Baaraat

Shruti Kakkar, played by Anushka Sharma, aspires to be an entrepreneur and start her own wedding planning company. In a society that pressures women to get married after they reach a certain age, Shruti’s parents not only support her but also encourage her entrepreneurial dream. It is quite rare to find such parents who do not bother about what society says but allow their children to choose their path in life. Kudos to parents who don’t care about log kya kahenge and put their children’s happiness first. Do you agree?

5. The Mehras In Dil Dhadakne Do

A movie that portrays the reality of affluent South Delhi families, Dil Dhadakne Do is a great example of parents who change for the better. The Mehra’s organize a cruise for their close friends and family for their 30th anniversary. During the time spent on the cruise, they come across various situations that help them realize that they care more about what people say than what is needed for their children. Although they were not the ideal parents initially, they change for the better and support their children in the end and it is proof that parents can change too.

It is great to see Bollywood movies portraying parents in a different light and breaking out of the regressive rut. Since movies have an immense impact on how society functions, this is a step forward in the right direction. Comment below and let us know if you agree with our list?
