200+ Traditional Boy Names You Can Use For Baby Girls

Several centuries ago, Shakespeare might have said, “What’s in a name?” but we have only started taking it seriously now. If a rose can smell as sweet even if we call it by a different name, then who is to say that a traditional boy’s name won’t suit a girl? We don’t know who decided which names were for boys and which ones were for girls. However, what we do know is that it is high time we stopped limiting ourselves to these gender binaries and named our little ones as we deem fit!

In an era where gender roles are challenged every day, and stepping out of stereotypes is not as frowned upon as before, do we really need to stick to the same age-old beliefs about naming babies? For centuries, we have seen how names are sorted into different categories – a list for baby boys, another for baby girls – and how we have followed them to the T. Let’s not separate names on the basis of gender anymore! The ‘blue is for boys and pink is for girls’ agenda has had us in a firm chokehold for way too long, and it’s time that changes!

Although there is no name that does not fit a child, regardless of the gender, we cannot help but admire how so many parents have been following the trend of giving their baby girls a name traditionally reserved for a boy.

As gender neutrality spreads its wings over our society, we only hope that this trend grows until we stop categorizing names according to gender! Whether they are desi names like Riddhi and Krishna, or western ones like Billie and Alex, we love how these traditional boy names have successfully managed to cross the gender divide and hopped onto the girls’ side!

However, don’t be surprised when we tell you that girls have been named after conventional boy names for quite some time. Celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Taylor Swift have had their names borrowed from the boys’ list. Even Blake Lively and her daughter James have names that initially fell under the boy-name category.

So, what other boy names have crossed the gender barrier and moved over to the girls’ side with grace? Let’s find out!

As we see the stringent rules for naming a baby slowly release its grip on us, it is quite refreshing to come across a baby girl with a name that would conventionally belong to a boy. Hopefully, we shall soon get over the gender disparity over names altogether and see boys being named after traditional baby girl names as well! Who knows? We just might stumble upon a boy who goes by the name Moira or a hunk who introduces himself as Hermione, and we think new parents will be more than willing to get behind this trend as well! Once we come out of this stereotype, we will have double the options for naming our little princes and princesses! What do you think of this trend? Do you have any other names in mind? We’d love to hear from you in the comments below!
