Comedian's Parody Of What Actually Happens After The Kids Go To Bed Is Spot On

Only a real parent would understand the struggle and effort it takes to put their kids to sleep. First, you have to convince them to put on their PJs and brush their teeth. Then comes storytime! Now the tired and exhausted you have to pick up one of their favorite books and start reading. But storytime sometimes gets them more excited and pumped up instead of putting them to sleep. So before you know it, you are on your third book and it seems like a story marathon. And soon enough, they pass out and you get some quiet time to yourself to enjoy a book, check your social media feed, or even catch up on your favorite series. But then you hear a strange sound, a door opening and approaching footsteps… No, it’s not the sound of somebody breaking into your house. The little devil you’ve oh-so-patiently put down to sleep has woken up and is here to ruin the few minutes of solitude you’ve been craving all day long. Sound familiar?

Recently, comedian Shaun Johnson posted a parody video on his Instagram page of all the excuses and silly things kids come up with to delay bedtime, and we cannot stop laughing.

Anything To Avoid Bedtime!

We’ve all heard or rather witnessed several episodes of how far kids would go to protest bedtime by doing everything they can even if it might look plain ridiculous to some of us. Kids can get really creative, we tell you. Sometimes, they are thirsty and they need a glass of water. So they hop down the stairs, pour themselves a glass of water, taking all the time they need. Then they drink it sip by sip and linger some more near the living room. When you remind them to go to bed, they start asking random questions. Or they would tell you they had a bad dream about a horror movie they saw recently. But when you start asking which movie was it, they’ll suddenly forget the name of the movie. And when all their efforts go in vain, they suddenly say, “Mama, I love you a lot.” But you know this plot all too well.

Johnson’s video was relatable to every parent who went through bedtime struggle with their kids. In the video, we can see how he stealthily comes down the stairs, and when asked why he’s not in bed, he replies that he has come to pick up his toy that has fallen down the stairs. From there on, it’s a series of excuses one after the other. The next one is how he suddenly got scared, but then he wasn’t very scared, and now he is scared again. When that excuse doesn’t seem to work, he says that he has come to put the shoes by the door so that it would be there in the morning.

One would think that they would retreat and go back to bed when all their efforts have become futile. But it doesn’t end there. Kids can be really determined, we tell you. Soon, he appears near the stairs again slowly making his way down, and when asked what he is still doing up, he nonchalantly asks his mom if they’ve impeached Trump yet.

Because of the huge response that his initial video has garnered, Johnson made a part 2 of the video by incorporating the details he received from the comments of his viewers. The video has all the possible excuses that kids make up, from being thirsty to asking about the time they went to the zoo and how long they would have to stay in quarantine.

Clearly, Johnson is well aware of the nighttime excuses kids come up with to avoid bedtime. What do you think of the hilarious video? Comment below and let us know of your share of nighttime excuses that you’ve heard from your kids, nieces, and nephews.
