Dia Mirza Trolled, Reminds Us Of Neena Gupta’s Struggle In The 80s

In this time of social media and avid internet usage, we like to believe that we are becoming more open-minded and accepting of different people. People make different choices, imbibe different values, and choose to live life on their own terms. Sometimes that might not be what the world is used to, and that’s okay. It’s the year 2021, and we as a society like to believe that we are progressing towards a better mindset and adopting a “live and let live” approach. However, that’s not always the case. With the internet being such a massive part of our lives, people have access to bully and intimidate others quite quickly because it’s just a finger tap away. But does that mean we have to?

People tend to think that celebrities’ lives are a cakewalk, but they have their own struggles, just like everyone. They are constantly under the public eye and have to forego privacy. Sure, it comes with the territory but being scrutinized by the media can be stressful and exhausting, especially when subjected to trolling and unkind behavior. Indian actress Dia Mirza faced the brunt of trolling after sharing the news of her pregnancy on social media. Read this article to know more.

Dia Mirza announced her pregnancy on Instagram on April 1st, 2021. The news came as a surprise to several fans, celebrities, and friends who were happy for her. They congratulated her and showered her with love in her announcement post. However, there was a set of people who trolled her for announcing her pregnancy just after marriage. Dia Mirza and Vaibhav Rekhi tied the knot on February 15th, 2021. They had a private ceremony with close friends and family and kept it an intimate affair. After the wedding, the couple has been vacationing in the Maldives and enjoying each other’s company.

The former Miss Asia Pacific was subjected to trolling after posting a picture on Instagram announcing her pregnancy with a beautiful caption. She wrote, “Blessed to be one with mother earth…., blessed to cradle this purest of all dreams in my womb”. She is seen sporting a baby bump in the picture, leading to online trolls coming at her with cruel jokes, memes, and comments. Instead of celebrating new life, netizens have stooped to below-the-belt memes and trolling. They accused her of tying the knot only because she was pregnant, and some even questioned her integrity by saying that she tricked Vaibhav into marrying her. The real question is, why do we believe it’s okay to question someone about their personal choices? Why do we judge a woman so easily, and why can’t we let a woman live life on her own terms?

Back in the 80s, the talented actress Neena Gupta faced a lot of backlash when she had a daughter out of wedlock. She had an affair with Vivian Richards, a West Indian Cricketer, who was married, and it ended up in flames. But Neena was a victim to hate comments and bashful judgment. Doesn’t it take two people to engage in an extramarital affair? But society blames women like they always do instead of also focusing on the unfaithful man.

There are several other instances where women have been subjects of unfair treatment in our society, and unless we talk about it, things are bound to remain the same. Neena Gupta’s character and morals were questioned back in the 80s, and sadly, four decades later, not much has changed. Dia Mirza has also been a victim of bashfulness and judgment. That’s something to think about! Do let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
