Dulquer Salmaan Pens A Poem For Daughter, Maryam, On Third Birthday Wondering Why She Grew Up So Fast

Dulquer Salmaan debuted in Malayalam cinema with a semi-successful action-drama Second Show. Since then, he has acted in numerous successful and critically acclaimed movies in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films. The young actor is the son of the famous Malayalam actor Mammootty. In a short period in his career, Dulquer won hearts by displaying his acting talent in movies such as Ustad Hotel, OK Kanmani, Banglore Days, and so on.

Formerly a businessman, he holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Purdue University. He also runs numerous entrepreneurial ventures. He got married to Amal Sufiya, a Chennai-based architect in 2011. They were blessed with a baby girl, Mariam, a few years ago.

As May 5 2020 marked their little angel’s birthday, Dulquer took to Instagram to express his emotions as a father in the verse form.

In a heart-warming note, he wrote, “Happiest birthday darling Marie. You’ve got every one of us acting your age while you insist, “Im a big girl now!” Maybe you’re right. You’re fast growing up, speaking in full sentences now.”

Dulquer broke into poetry, telling how his three-year-old Mariam how she is growing up too fast, twirling in her princess dresses, creating her own games, and walking on her own. He also urged his baby girl to stay the little baby girl, as her family is yet to have enough of it all. Urging his daughter to slow down, not to rush, and “be a baby still,” like the day she was born and filled the hallways with their sweet sound. As most fathers would agree, he added that she will always be their baby, “even when the world says, she’s a big girl now.”

His confessed attempt at a poem was received with applause, as several celebrities replied to his post to wish “Little M” a happy birthday. Among those who responded to the post with love and good wishes are South Indian actors Prithviraj Sukumaran, Mamta Mohandas, Soubin Sahir, Kajal Aggarwal, and Anjali Menon.

He also took to Instagram to pay tribute to his Karwaan co-star, Irrfan Khan, who passed away prematurely in April 2020. He wrote a note sharing how gracious and humble Irrfan Khan was, despite his humongous talent and international acclaim. He also shared a post remembering the acting legend, Rishi Kapoor, who also passed away last month. He wrote, “A loss to Indian cinema one cannot put down in words.”

Dulquer Salmaan was part of the iForIndia concert that featured artists from all over the world, including A. R. Rahman, Jonas Brothers, Shah Rukh Khan, Bryan Adams, and Will Smith, among other Indian artists, musicians, and creators. The concert was an attempt to raise funds for those who are severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. As we are all hit in some way or the other by the pandemic related lockdown, celebrities coming together to pool their efforts for a social cause is heart-warming.

Let’s hope that DQ’s darling Marie stays his baby forever. Dulquer Salmaan’s note is seeping with a father’s love for his child, and we couldn’t be more glad. There are thousands of girl children who are denied love and affection because of the biases and unjust gender ideologies still prevalent in Indian society. When more and more men are afraid to show their emotions openly in order to protect their “masculinity”, Dulquer Salmaan becomes a model to them all. His continued success, fame and the respect he has garnered over the years only proves that being a gentleman does not stand in your way. Expressing your emotions in a healthy way does not take away from your personality, it only adds to it.
