  • Oats – Oats have been termed as a healthy food for a long time now, and there is a good reason for that. This superfood has a high iron content, which can be great for lactating moms as it can increase the supply of milk (2). Oats also have a lovely texture that is just about the right amount of chewy, making it perfect for energy bites.
  • Brewer’s Yeast – Brewer’s yeast has been used quite commonly in the production of bread and beer. It is an excellent source of nutrition, particularly high in B vitamins and Chromium. Brewer’s yeast is a galactagogue, which means it helps with breast milk production (3).
  • Flaxseeds – Flaxseeds are commonly used in energy bites. Also, a superfood, flaxseeds, has a high estrogen content, which is known to help increase your body’s ability to produce breast milk (4). Make sure you use ground flaxseeds.
  • Nut Butter – Adding nut butter, such as peanut butter, cashew butter, or almond butter, will give your energy bites that rich nutty flavor and help with the texture. However, avoid this if you are allergic to peanuts or almonds. You can use sunflower butter as a smart alternative.
  • Honey – You can add honey for sweetness. You can also use maple syrup instead of honey. Avoid refined sugar and use honey instead, as it is a healthier alternative.
  • Salt – Salt can enhance the overall flavor of the energy bites. It is also a good source of sodium, which is excellent for you and your baby (5).
  • Vanilla Extract – This magical ingredient can add the right amount of warmth and sweetness to your energy bite.

Making these yummy lactation bites shouldn’t take you more than 15 minutes! Considering how time is a luxury when you have a new baby, this works in your favor. All you need to do is add the oats, brewer’s yeast, ground flaxseeds, nut butter, honey, vanilla extract, and salt to a food processor or a mixer. Do not add the chocolate chips.

Once the mixture is ready, you can transfer the contents into a kneading bowl. Throw in the chocolate chips at this point. You will then have to start making small balls out of the mixture. They should stick together easily because of the honey. Once the balls are ready, place them on a tray and freeze them for thirty minutes. Your lactation bites are ready! All you have to do is store them in an airtight container and have them as and when you want.
