We get it, picking a name for your little one can be far more challenging than you had expected. Especially with all the suggestions you are receiving from family members who want your baby to be named after them (sorry Nana Gurtrude, that’s a hard pass), friends and well wishers. Parents are often searching for inspiration in every nook and corner of the internet. But what if you didn’t have to look further than Disney Princess books and movies we all grew up with? Each Disney Princess possesses her own gifts, talents and strengths. They are vibrant characters with unique personalities. What better place to look for the perfect name for your little princess? The new age of Disney has given a different connotation to the word. No longer are princesses viewed as ditsy or shallow, they have been adapted into self assured and independent characters who value their own identity. Someone we would all love to be named after.

1. Pocahontas

Here’s a unique and beautiful name inspired by Pocahontas. A woman who was proud of her roots and her heritage. She fought tirelessly to safeguard her people and chose to stay with them even when she didn’t have to. Pocahontas is known for her deep connection and understanding of nature and the Earth. She knows how to value life and treat everyone as equals. And although she is technically a Chieftain’s daughter, she has definitely earned her title of Princess in our eyes. Who wouldn’t want to name their child after this courageous and open-minded woman?
2. Anna

Not to be outdone by her sister Elsa, Anna from the movie Frozen is just as, if not more inspirational. She is spontaneous and open to adventure. Not to mention that she has a great positive spirit and the ability to see the best in people, even though she has been alone for much of her life. Anna is quiry, humorous and evidence that you don’t need special powers in order to take on the world. Would you name your little one after this affectionate brunette?
3. Merida

This is one of our favorite names, and one of our favorite characters! Merida, from the movie Brave, is a self assured young lady with a strong sense of self. She knows who she is and what she wants and that’s something we all must aspire to. Merida may be a little hot headed but she is also courageous and independent. She knows her way about the land and has no qualms about getting her hands dirty. She is also compassionate and loves her family. Although she has a disagreement with her mother, she helps her along her journey while showcasing her many skills. Merida wants to make her family proud, she just doesn’t want to compromise her identity in the process and we think her authenticity is inspiring. Don’t you?
4. Rapunzel

Naming your daughter after this spunky Princess is a great idea. We all know her best from her latest adaptation in the movie Tangled. Rapunzel is kind and considerate but also someone you don’t want to mess with. She is adventurous and has a sense of childlike wonder about everything. She is also great at making friends as she never judges a book by its cover. Rapunzel is outgoing and goal orientated and is willing to take risks to get what she wants. She stands up for herself but is also selfless. And with so many great qualities, it’s no surprise that she’s made it onto our list.
5. Belle

Speaking of books, Belle from Beauty and the Beast is definitely a fan favorite. This beauty is graceful, kind and full of knowledge. Belle is accepting and smart. She is also a big dreamer, having lived in her head most of her life. And when life threw challenges at her, she saw opportunities to learn and grow. Life with Belle is never boring. She is full of new and bright ideas. She appreciates the people around her and loves her family dearly which makes her a great Princess to draw inspiration from. Besides, baby Belle just sounds too cute a name to pass up on.
We know that naming your baby can be stressful and overwhelming. So, be sure to take your time and take your cue from these well known baby names. After all there are some pretty famous parents who have also opted to name their baby after a Princess. For example, Actress Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen named their daughter Briar Rose, the name the fairies called Aurora from Sleeping Beauty when she was hidden in the woods.
