1. Lack Of Eye Contact

Like all human beings, babies use eye contact as a way to connect and communicate with those around them. Parents often learn to discern what kind of mood their baby is in by simply reading their eyes, which is why lack of eye contact is a clear sign that your baby is stressed. When you don’t maintain eye contact while talking or interacting with someone, it shows that you are uncomfortable or uninterested. Your baby may indicate the same by swaying away from you after making eye contact. This means that they want a change or need you to move away and give them some space. Over focus on a baby can also cause them stress. You need not leave the room. Staying 5 steps away will give them the room they need to move around freely and feel more at ease.

This sudden change can cause stress in their bowel movements, leaving them feeling uncomfortable and fussy. Not to mention that they could get ill. Frequent vomiting, constipation, loose motion and fever are all symptoms you must watch out for. And don’t hesitate to consult your pediatrician in case these symptoms arise.

This one is pretty obvious. Your baby cries only when something is bothering them. But how do you differentiate between all their regular cry sessions and this one? Your baby cries on the regular for a multitude of reasons. They dropped their favorite toy, the cat stared at them for too long, the weather changed(you get the gist!). But for the most part, they cry for one of three reasons: their diaper needs changing, they are hungry or they are tired and would like to sleep. Once these needs are met, they quieten down quickly. Only when the crying is loud and continuous should you be concerned. Your baby only does this when something stressful in their surroundings, like the lights, sounds or people. Whatever the case may be, make sure to attend to them immediately. Use rattle toys to distract them or baby gyms and musical toys from diverging their attention and soothing them.

4. When They Can’t Get To Sleep

Sometimes a nightmare is enough to cause your baby stress. If they wake up suddenly and sit up straight, walk over to them and soothe them back to sleep. Brighten their crib by using bright colored sheets or mattresses and place their favorite toy inside. This will help them feel more comfortable in the crib. Using a white noise canceling machine can be beneficial.

5. Too Many Movements

If your baby is often stretching out their hand to you or placing their hand on their forehead, they are probably experiencing stress. These are not cuddle moves, they are movements done in order to calm themselves and signify that they need help. Likewise, if they arch their back or neck often it may be because they are experiencing mild stomach pain. Continuous yawning and hiccupping is also an indicator of stress. Paying close attention to your baby will help you notice when they need to be comforted by you.

Having a baby is stressful but it is important to not worry when your baby experiences stress. Most babies will feel overwhelmed at some point in their development and will experience stress and discomfort. The most important part is to look after the health of both you and your baby. This will eliminate most of their discomfort. However it helps to keep an eye out for these signs and offer the support they need when they are truly feeling stressed out. They will be right as rain in no time!
