To All Mothers, From A Mother

Every day as a mother is beautiful. You get to watch your little ones grow, spending every waking moment fussing over them and ensuring they get the best in every sphere of the world. It’s no wonder then that motherhood is such a notable role. When you sacrifice more of yourself than you ever thought all your life for that little being that came out of you, you’re doing something incredible!

But in all the joy and tears of motherhood, it’s not uncommon for mums to lose themselves, to forget who they used to be and what they stood for. Being engrossed in a life of chores can make all previous hopes, dreams, and ambitions feel like a version of you from a different lifetime. Juggling so many roles, you may end up feeling like you’re not doing justice to any one of the roles you shoulder.

But hey, mama. You don’t have to feel guilty. You don’t have to drown yourself in remorse. You need to know that you’re not alone. And you’re not wrong in feeling a little lost, sad, and confused at times. We all feel the same sometimes. I did too. That’s why I’m here today to give you some advice that can help you get a hold of your life again. These helped me too. So, here goes:

1. Don’t Shy Away From Taking Help

Take as much help as you need from whomever you need. It really does take a village to raise a kid. So don’t stop yourself from asking your husband, your mom, your in-laws, your friends, or your nanny for help. You don’t have to do everything on your own.

2. Have A Schedule In Place For Your Baby

I cannot stress the importance of this enough! It’s beneficial for both you and your baby. When you have a routine in place, your baby thrives. That’s not all; you save up so much time that you can actually do a lot of the things you wanted to but never could because of the time constraints. However, don’t be too strict with the routine you follow. Leave a little room for flexibility, so you never get too stressed if things don’t happen by the clock.

3. Know That You’re Not The Only Caregiver

You might be the primary one, but your husband (at the very least) is a part of the caregiving team too! As a mom, it’s natural to overburden yourself with all of the baby responsibilities and then stress if things don’t happen your way. For instance, your husband might have a different way of soothing the baby or playing with them. Don’t fuss over it. Let them enjoy their we-time as you enjoy your me-time.

4. Have New, Non-Baby-Centric Goals

Yes, your baby is a significant part of your life, but you don’t have to place all your dreams and aspirations on the back burner when your baby is born. To be a healthy and happy mom, it’s vital to have some goals for yourself too. They could be anything — short-term or long-term goals, changing jobs, or getting a new house. It doesn’t matter as long as it gives your confidence a much-needed boost.

5. Communicate With The Ones You Love

It might feel like you don’t have time, but you have to squeeze out some for the ones you care about. Spending time with your loved ones will make you and them happy. Besides, it fulfills your need to be loved.

Yes, your little prince or princess is worth every ounce of sacrifice you make. But in the process of raising your baby, don’t forget that you’re just as important too. Your dreams and aspirations matter too. So keep being an awesome mom and an awesome woman, just like you are!
