Game Of Thrones: Men, Just Give Up. Women Are Winning!

STATUTORY WARNING: If you haven’t seen the third and the latest and the greatest episode of Season 7 yet, turn your sights now, or you’ll regret it!

Still here?

Don’t tell us we didn’t warn ya!

Well, now that you are here, let’s talk about two of our favorite things – powerful women and Game of Thrones!

The status of women in the show has come a long way from that in Season 1, where they were mostly portrayed as background characters, always getting naked at the drop of a hat. Fast forward to Season 7, the character development of these women has been immense. And frankly, they have overshadowed the men of the show, establishing themselves as queens in every corner of Westeros, a continent where men ruled almost exclusively!

If you have seen episodes 1, 2 and 3 of the current season, you can plainly see evidence of women ruling everywhere.

Arya Stark killed the entire Frey family in one bold swoop!

Yes, she has come a long way from the girl who watched her father die and was held captive by the Hound to becoming ‘No One’ – breed of famous Essosi assassins who can take the shape of any face. After cleverly murdering Lord Walder Frey in the last season, this season she poisoned the entire Frey family, creating her own version of the Red Wedding and proving herself to be one of the strongest female characters in the show.

Daenerys hit Westeros in all her glory, all ready to take over the Iron Throne!

Mhysa, the Mother of Dragons, has finally arrived and how! After marching with her army of the Dothraki, the Unsullied, an Iron Fleet and of course, three beautiful dragons, we finally get to see Daenerys claiming the house she was born in like the queen she is! Her strategic meeting with Olenna Tyrell, Ellaria Sand and Yara Greyjoy shows her brainy side. And who can forget Lady Olenna’s wise words towards the end of their meeting, “I’ve known a great number of men. I’ve outlived them all. You know how? I ignored them.” Her death was probably one of the lowest points of this season so far, even though she died with grace and strength. Here’s looking at you Tywin, the Lion!

Sansa became acting queen in the North!

Who knew that the Season 1 Joffrey-crazy fan girl would come this far? Sansa has shown some real growth, even saving her brother Jon’s ass in the Battle of the Bastards last season by bringing Lord Baelish’s army at the last moment. Throughout the first three episodes of this season, she has shown that she has a mind of her own, contesting Jon’s ideas and matching Littlefinger wit for wit. Jon even made her acting queen in the North as he set sail to meet Dany and she handled her new role like a pro. Even Littlefinger couldn’t help but tell Sansa that ‘Command suits you.’ All hail, acting queen!

Cersei showed her dark and powerful side!

Cersei has always been one heck of a powerful woman character! Although leaning towards the dark side, she is one strong woman that defeats any man with her sheer passion and ambition to rule on the Iron Throne. This season, she has proved her mettle as a calculative ruler who can turn a disadvantageous position into an advantageous one just by choosing the right allies and making the right moves. Her alliance with Euron Greyjoy helped her Dany’s Iron Fleet. On the other hand, she almost paid her debt to the Iron Bank by taking over the Highgarden and its wealth with the help of her brother Jaime! Cersei might be cruel but it can be denied that she’s a Lannister Lion in the true sense of the term.

We just cannot wait for the next episode to come so we can watch these women establish their power over the men of Game of Thrones!
