Many expectant mums are disappointed at having to cancel their baby shower due to the lockdown. With movement being restricted, throwing a baby shower may not seem ideal in the current situation. But that doesn’t mean you don’t get to celebrate the arrival of your little one with your loved ones. Even if you can’t do it in person, you can throw a virtual shower while in lockdown.
Whether you are hosting a baby shower for a relative, friend, or your own, below we discuss the 7 steps you need to follow through for an awesome virtual baby shower:
1. Create A Guestlist To Send Out Invitations
Before getting to any other aspect of your baby shower, the first thing you need to do is come up with a guest list. Think of how many people you wish to invite. You can send out invitations via mail or create a group for the event and invite everyone through that.

2. Schedule A Time
When setting up a time, make sure that it is convenient for everyone to attend. Though people are confined to their homes, don’t forget the fact that most people are working from home. It would be best to set up a time during one of the weekends.
3. Pick A Platform
Since the “venue” of your baby shower is going to be a live video call platform, the next step would be choosing a platform for the same. There are several platforms available such as Skype, Google Hangouts, Zoom, and FaceTime. They can be easily set up and are accessible via your phone, tablet, laptop, and smart TV. It’s best to pick one that’s most easy to use by anyone who is not tech-savvy. Remember, you don’t want to spend 10 minutes helping your grandma to connect to your call.

4. Create A Timeline
Sticking to a rigid schedule isn’t necessary especially when it comes to a fun event like a baby shower. But following a schedule will help you run the event smoothly. You can set a certain amount of time for catching up, followed by fun games and gift unwrapping, and then for everyone to bid their goodbyes.
5. Include A Baby Registry
One of the most exciting parts for any mom-to-be during a baby shower is unwrapping gifts. Including a baby registry will not only make sure that the expectant parents get things they want, but it will also make choosing gifts that much easier for everyone else. 6. Decorate
Having a virtual baby shower doesn’t mean that you have to compromise on the best part about the event — decorations! You don’t have to worry about decorating the entire room, just decorate the backdrop of where the video call is going to be held. You can also buy baby shower goodies online.
7. Introduce Activities & Games
Games and activities are something everyone looks forward to during a baby shower. Plus, it will give everyone an opportunity to interact with each other and make the party more lively. Here are a few games that you could play:
- Guess the number: The host holds up a jar and the guests are asked to guess the number of jellybeans or candies in the jar.
- Name that song: You could play various nursery rhymes and tunes and then ask the guests to name the song. Whoever can name it in the least amount of time wins.
- How well do you know the mom-to-be? Another interesting game, reveal different fun facts about the mom-to-be and let the guests guess if it’s true or false.
- Who’s that baby? Prepare a folder with baby pictures of all the guests. You can ask them to mail you beforehand. Now share your screen and ask the guests to figure out who is who by looking at the pictures.
Even though a virtual baby shower may not be the ideal way you’d hoped to celebrate this joyous occasion of your life, with some planning and preparations, it could very well turn out to be a memorable experience.
