Here’s How Bollywood Celebrated Mother’s Day Amidst Lockdown

On 10 May 2020, the world celebrated Mother’s Day in the middle of a pandemic. This time, though, we did not have a choice but to celebrate it from within the confines of our homes. Yet some of us did manage to make it special. As Priyanka Chopra Jonas pointed out in her Mother’s Day message, some of us are far away from our mothers on this Mother’s Day, but that ought to make it all the more special for us. Here’s how some of our favorite Bollywood stars celebrated Mother’s Day:

1. Shilpa Shetty Kundra

Be it fitness, being a good actor, or being a good mother, Shilpa Shetty Kundra has been acing it all since day one. She is a doting mother of two children, Viaan and Samisha, whom she describes as the two halves of her heart. On Mother’s Day, her Instagram was filled with Mother’s Day messages to the maternal figures in her life, including her mother and mother-in-law. She also posted a special video in which we get to see a special note her son wrote thanking her for being an amazing mother.

2. Arjun Rampal

Arjun Rampal is one of the finest actors in Bollywood. He was recently blessed with a baby boy, Arik. He took to Instagram to express his gratitude and appreciation for the mother of his child, Gabriella Demetriades. He wrote, “She is a new mom and a very fine one too. Happy first Mother’s Day mamma.” He also shared a picture with his mother as well, describing how she is the most beautiful soul he knows.

3. Mira Rajput Kapoor

Mira Rajput Kapoor has been one of our favorites ever since she married the heartthrob Shahid Kapoor. She is the mother of two beautiful children. On Mother’s Day, she posted three different photos celebrating her mother, her mother-in-law, as well as herself. While she described her mother as “the wind beneath my wings”, she wrote a heartfelt note of appreciation for her mother-in-law, Neelima Azeem, who is a sweet grandmother to her children. The third post was a throwback picture to the time when she gave birth to her son, Zain.

4. Sara Ali Khan

Sara Ali Khan, the rising star of Bollywood, shared an image of her grandmother holding a younger version of herself, with her mother, Amrita Singh, beside them. She captioned it as, “Meri maa ki maa. Thank you for creating Mommy.” We are definitely glad to see three generations of strong women together in a picture and equally happy that Sara remembered the part her grandmother played in creating the life she has.

5. Kareena Kapoor Khan

Kareena Kapoor Khan was raised by a strong mother, Babita. When the time came, Kareena proved to be a doting mother to her little prince, Taimur Ali Khan. In his father’s words, little Tim is a source of joy to everyone around him. Kareena posted a rather goofy picture on Instagram with the caption, “this pretty much sums up mother’s day and well…every other day with Tim.”

6. Priyanka Chopra Jonas

Global Indian presence, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, posted a special message on Mother’s Day this year, celebrating “all the maternal figures around the world”. She said in the video message, “Mother’s Day is more touching this year than ever before.” When a lot of us are far away from our loved ones, it is shared memories that keep us close. She also said that mothers are not just the ones we are born to, there are more mother figures, especially the ones who made you the person you are.

It is said that mothers give us our first experience of heaven. From the moment we are born, our mothers have been there for us, protecting and nurturing us. Do not forget to set aside the time to thank them for everything they have done for us.
