Summer Skin Problems in Babies and How to Deal With Them

As a first-time mom, it was very difficult for me to figure out what is best for my little munchkin’s skin. It’s hard for us to deal with climate change; we follow completely different skincare regimens for summer and winter. Things get much harder for babies because their skin is more vulnerable than ours and they get skin problems too. The availability of a hundred thousand baby products out there makes it nearly impossible to choose the right ones. As it is summer already, you might want to keep an eagle eye on your baby’s skin to prevent the following skin problems from occurring.

Prickly Heat or Heat Rash

Heat rashes are tiny red bumps on your baby’s skin that look like pimples. They are caused due to overheating and sweating that are common during summer. They mostly appear on baby’s upper chest, armpits, diaper area, and neck. You may freak out a bit like I did, but don’t worry; they are not very difficult to deal with.

Dressing up your baby in loose cotton clothes and giving her a bath will help. Bathing your baby once in day during summer is fine and it helps remove sweat and dirt from baby’s skin. Make sure you use a mild soap for this purpose so that it do not hurt your baby’s skin. Himalaya Refreshing Baby Soap is a right choice, since its cooling, refreshing, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties help deal with prickly heat or heat rashes.

In case you don’t want to bathe your baby every day, you can simply wipe her body with a clean, wet, cotton cloth. Make sure you apply a good baby moisturizer immediately after you give your baby a bath or wipe her body clean. Himalaya Soothing Calamine Baby Lotion is one among the best options available in the market. It works well on babies as it is infused with the power of Aloe vera and calamine – both of these ingredients are very good for soothing the skin. Also, this baby lotion helps deal with rashes caused due to prickly heat as well as allergic reactions, insect bites, or chicken pox.

Sunburn

Sunburns can be really painful and annoying for your baby. The best thing you can do to prevent your baby from getting sunburn is to keep her comfortable indoors during the hottest hours of the day. The chances of your baby getting sunburned are a lot more than you getting sunburned because her skin is extremely sensitive. So, don’t take your baby out even if you feel that the heat is bearable.

In case your baby’s skin gets sunburned, place a wet, soft cotton cloth on the affected area for 10-15 minutes. Apply natural Aloe vera gel or a good soothing moisturizer like the Himalaya Soothing Calamine Baby Lotion on the area afterward. In case your baby has a severe sunburn and it’s hurting the little one too much, seek the advice of a doctor as soon as possible.

Diaper Rashes

Somehow, diaper rashes seem to occur more often during summer – have you noticed it too? This is probably because of the heat and sweat or moisture trapped inside a wet or soiled diaper. Make sure that you do not leave your baby in a soiled diaper for long and check the diapers often and change it.

In case your baby gets diaper rashes, go for a mild diaper rash cream such as Himalaya Diaper Rash Cream that will help soothe the rashes. It soothes the rashes and forms a protective layer over the affected area for better healing.

Summers can take a toll on your baby’s skin as well as health. It breaks your heart to see them sick, isn’t it? Make sure that your baby drinks enough water so that she is well hydrated; this helps the skin stay healthy too. Also, keep your baby’s skin clean and moisturized to avoid infections during the season.
