If you’re someone who consumed alcohol even semi regularly before you got pregnant chances are you saying no at a big event is going to draw some unwanted attention. So, what do you do? Well, you can always say that you are the designated driver or that you are detoxing for healthy reasons. If your friends are going to see right through those excuses then the best thing for you to do is to arrive early and pick out your own drink. If it’s something casual like drinks with the girls, just tell your waiter that you’re pregnant and not telling anyone yet. You can ask them to make your drinks virgin and to look like the alcoholic one’s you’re ordering once your girls arrive. If it’s an event with a bar, order your own drink like a water or soda and ask them to add a slice of lime in it. This way everyone will think you’re drinking anyway. Isn’t that easy!

2. Dealing With Your Wardrobe

As women, we usually have a curated style and a wardrobe that is never out of character. So if you are someone who only wears dark colors but suddenly shows up in a flowy floral dress, it’s going to raise an eyebrow or two. Although your clothes may be getting a little tighter during your first trimester, your bump is unlikely to show all that much,so at least that’s one less thing to worry about. All you really need to do is buy the clothes that you would wear usually, but one size bigger. It’s also not a bad idea to get your hands on some extra layers or eye catching accessories if that’s in your domain of style. This will distract from your weight or tummy. Try wearing black. This color makes you look leaner and can be worn at almost any occasion. Besides, it’s so classy and socially acceptable no one will suspect a thing.

3. Don’t Tell Your Kids

As much as you are dying to tell your kids why you’re so exhausted and disappearing into the bathroom everytime they shove their half eaten food in your face, it’s in your best interest to not say a word. Kids are adorable but they are not one for keeping secrets, especially if it’s something this big and monumental. To a child, the news of a new member affects them the most. All they can think about is having to share their bed, toys and parents. So, they are going to blurt out the news to anyone who is willing to listen. They won’t even have to coax it out of them. This is especially true for toddlers or kids younger than the age of 8. So, it’s time to test out your own abilities and keep this slice of information to yourself for the first trimester. You can tell your kids nearing the end of this time, when you are starting to tell your close family.

4. Lay Low

This is the time that you might be experiencing some major fatigue and morning sickness so take it easy. It’s okay to say no to a couple of invites. You can tell people you are not feeling well and it’s technically not a lie. This is the time to wrap your head around the good news and bond with your partner. So feel free to skip unimportant events and just take in this huge change with your family. Allow your body to rest and recuperate. You need to put yourself and your little one first. And if people speculate, so what? They probably thought the same thing when you called in sock of a migraine last month. At the end of the day it’s all about doing what feels right and good for you.

Pregnancy is a beautiful journey and it’s okay if you want to keep the first third of that private. With a few tips and tricks you’ll have everyone fooled until you decide to announce the good news. So, don’t worry about it and take things slow!
