In an interview with a leading entertainment portal, the actress stated that one should not overeat just because they are now pregnant. Her nutritionist, Rujuta also believes in sticking to whatever one has been doing before pregnancy so that there is no drastic weight gain or change in body type. It’s okay to eat an extra paratha if you are pregnant, but carrying a child doesn’t mean you should be eating 20 parathas, says the actress.

Talking about her cravings, the actress said she craved karelas during her pregnancy, which is very different. Kareena loved and enjoyed the taste of karelas. She also revealed how everyone suggests adding a bit of sugar to the vegetable to get rid of the bitterness, but said that that’s not how she likes it. The diva enjoys the bitter pungent taste of the veggie. And being a great source of iron, karela has many health benefits to it. The 39-year-old also unveiled her lunch of the day, which was lauki mutter.

The Jab We Met actress further stated that she had developed a sweet tooth for Indian sweets rather than cakes, pastries, and whipped cream. Kareena loved eating besan ka ladoos and suji ka pedas. Her nutritionist, Rujuta explained that since homemade sweets have a low glycemic index and properties that regulate the blood sugar levels, the actress chose to go with ghar ki mithai over unhealthy sweets. Besides, they also contain calcium, iron, and minerals which will help in staying energetic during the pregnancy, according to her nutritionist.

When asked about her pregnancy diet and tips, the actress stated that she keeps getting asked what tips she has received during her pregnancy. But the actress stated that since it is her body and her pregnancy, what she likes may not suit the other person. The Veere Di Wedding actress stated that she eats what she loves but also sticks to a particular diet at the same time.

She further added that she can’t just survive on broccoli and spinach, and opts for homegrown veggies that are economical and accessible instead of aping the diet followed by women in the western countries.

We generally have a tendency to go for exotic vegetables rather than our locally grown produce. Pregnant women also believe in eating for two and following a completely different diet during their pregnancy. But just like the actress stated, one doesn’t have to alter their entire diet or include expensive and exotic veggies in their plate to stay healthy and fit during pregnancy. Also, when it comes to pregnancy, each body is different and unique. So, what works for one may not work for the other person. Hence it is best to talk to a nutritionist and come up with a diet plan that will work for you and your body.
