You might be wondering what a layette is or perhaps, you know what it is. But for those of you who are new to the term, let’s clarify what it means. A layette refers to a collection of clothing, accessories, bedding, and anything else you might need to take care of a newborn. Choose The Right Clothes

Ensure that the baby clothes you purchase are preshrunk because you will be washing them regularly for the first few months. It is best to buy clothes that can be washed easily. Another thing to consider is the quality of the material. Your baby’s skin is delicate and sensitive, so choose materials that will be suitable. Soft cotton works best.
Always Buy The Bigger Size

You might be tempted to buy one that fits but always go for the next size. Newborn babies grow up way too quickly. Before you know it, your baby will grow out of their clothes, and you’ll be left with a set of clothes that your baby barely used. Therefore, choose a size bigger so that your baby can make the most use of them.
Choose Clothes That Are Easy to Remove

Remember that you will constantly be getting your baby in and out of these clothes all day. With the diaper changes, feeding cycles, and daily baths, your baby changes clothes like a model at a fashion show. Therefore, when you purchase a layette set, ensure that the baby clothes can be removed as easily and quickly as they can be put on, without having to do much in between. You don’t want your baby’s clothes to be the one that’s slowing you down.
Other Essentials Add-Ons

Apart from the standard set of items that fall under the purview of a layette, you can include other essentials that make it the complete package. Some of them include mittens, socks, baby blankets, bibs, washcloths, onesies, pacifiers, baby wipes, baby nail clippers, leg warmers, burp cloths, and baby powder. You could also include mufflers, baby knee pads, nasal aspirator, baby comb, diaper rash cream, bunting bag, and anything else that you find suitable.
While preparing for the arrival of your baby, don’t forget to take care of yourself too. You can add a nipple cream, baby monitor, and sleep gown to the list of add-ons for yourself. Most importantly, remember that you are not alone, and it can be challenging, but you will grow into the role of parenting.
