11. The Monster Under Your Bed

We all have heard different versions of the same story. A story that involves the terrifying monster if we don’t abide by our parent’s rules. It could be anything from not finishing our veggies to brushing our teeth or even sleeping on time, this monster was hella scary that we didn’t mind stuffing our face with spinach and broccoli.

10. Every Time You Misbehaved At A Public Place

Every time we misbehaved and got on our parents’ nerves, especially at a public place, they came up with this smart tactic. “ If you don’t sit quietly, that aunty will come and beat you”. Or she will scold you or kidnap you. And we fell for it every time until we became too big to realize that no aunty gives a damn.

9. When You Were Too Close To The TV

Every time we sat near the TV in our living room, this is what we heard. “Don’t sit so close to the TV, you will lose your eyesight and will have to wear glasses.” Although this lie might not have scared many of us because as children we were obsessed with wearing glasses.

8. When You Thought You Will Be Saved By Speaking The Truth

Yes, parents can convince us to tell them the truth by promising us that we won’t be punished for it even if we have done something terrible. But as soon as we blurt out what we did, it’s a whole different story. Now, who was lying in the first place?

7. Milk — The Superfood

“Drink milk, and you will be like Superman”.

6. Chewing Bubble Gum!

How many times have we been warned by our parents that if we God forbid swallowed the bubble gum, it will stay in our stomach forever? Though this is something that we have all believed at some point in our lives, did it stop us from chewing and blowing these sweet treats? Hell No!

“We will send you back to where you came from — the hospital”. Although at this point we would be so angry with our parents that nothing they say could get through to us.

4. Bribery

When nothing else works, bribery always does. That is until they keep their word. How many of us are still waiting for that cycle that our parents promised us they would get if we scored 90%?

3. When You Thought The Board Exams Were The Ultimate Test Of Life

It seemed like if we failed boards, that was the end of life. We would have no future and that was it. They were made out to be this huge deal to us by our parents.

“If you ace your 10th and 12th exams, you will be able to enjoy college”. This is one line that we’ve heard countless times from our parents, relatives, and our teachers. And how did college work out for you?

We were taught that talking to strangers could land us in trouble, but no one ever told us that we will one day be forced to marry them.
