Mahhi Vij Narrates Her Body-Shaming Experience, Says She Is Proud Of Her C-Section Scar

Mahhi Vij won our hearts by playing some of our favorite characters on TV. Starting with a modeling career at a young age of 17, Mahhi has had continued success on Indian television. She also participated and won a premier dance reality show with her now husband Jay Bhanushali.

Together, the happy couple has an adopted son as well as an adopted daughter. Mahhi Vij gave birth to their first biological child last year. The newest addition to their family is a little girl whom they have named Tara.

Unfortunately for women out there, body shaming is still real and rampant. This is especially true for celebrities who lead a public life. Having little access to privacy is a major downside of fame. As usual, women are facing the heat more than men.

The model and actor, Mahhi Vij recently got candid about such experiences. She took to Instagram to open up about the intense criticism and mockery that she had to face after she had given birth to her daughter.

She wrote, “Let’s get one thing straight, Body-shaming someone is never OK, even if the target is a public figure.” However, she pointed out that despite this being a “universal rule of decorum”, people are still criticizing other people’s appearances, including those of new moms.

She also threw shade on those who give unsolicited, random advice which practically insults the other person. In this case, she was told to shed a few pounds so that she would look gorgeous, as outrageous as that sounds. She said that even after the delivery people would come to her and say that she would look gorgeous if she would lose more weight.

Mahhi Vij, however, is determined not to let these comments get to her. To people who are at the receiving end of such negativity, her advice is not to take it to heart. She adds, “…just eat right and let your body heal because you have just delivered a human out of your body! Love your body just the way it is.”

In an insightful note she penned on Instagram, she asked mothers like her to embrace their body and believe that we are beautiful just the way we are “…with or without stretch marks or pregnancy scars.”

She also opened up about the scar she got because she had a C-Section. Instead of resenting it, Mahhi Vij is showing mothers the way by saying that she is proud of the scar that brought her a gift of life. “After all,” she said,  “growing a baby, carrying them for nine months and then giving birth is the biggest change in a woman’s life.” Following which, Mahi thinks that a woman “needs all the kindness, power and positivity around her she can get.”.

All we need, she added, is people around to tell us that we are beautiful and remind us of our worth, scar or otherwise.

Pregnancy is a challenge for every woman. It changes them emotionally and physically and these changes are beyond our control. What a mother needs is a good network of friends and family to support and love her. Negativity and body-shaming would only bring her down. However, as Mahhi points out, there is little decorum being followed around this subject. B-Town celebrities like Kareena Kapoor Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bacchan were among the many actors who were body-shamed after childbirth. Believe her when a mother says that she can do without such negativity, especially from strangers on social media. It is high time we started treating others with respect and empathy.

It is important to let the body recover. Keep in mind that not everyone can simply bounce back. What do you think about body-shaming? Do you agree with Mahhi Vij? Let us know in the comments.
