Husband Drives 7-Month Pregnant Wife On Scooter From Jharkhand To MP For Exams

Women never fail to amaze us with their courage and dedication to achieve their goals in life. No matter how old they get or what situation they are in, women never give up! And what makes it remarkable is when they get support from their families and loved ones. The support women receive from their loved ones brings them one step closer to achieving their goals. We have a similar story that talks about a pregnant woman and the support she got from her husband.

Dhananjaya and Soni Manjhi have been married for 9 months and live in a village called Gantatola in Jharkhand. Soni is 7 months pregnant and has completed her 1st year in BEd. Soni has always been very determined and focussed on her studies. Being pregnant hasn’t stopped this young woman from working towards her ambition of becoming a teacher. Amidst the floods, battered roads, and the pandemic, her husband decided to take her to Madhya Pradesh to attend her exams so that she does not miss a year. The couple left for the exam on 28th August 2020 (1).

Talking to a leading news portal, the couple revealed that they shared one raincoat for their journey. Dhananjaya had to wear his raincoat backward to protect his wife, but the heavy rains made things more difficult for them. Dhananjaya was skeptical about the long journey as he felt that traveling 1300 km by road could be tiring for his pregnant wife. But Soni assured him that she doesn’t want to miss a year and that everything would be fine. The determination shown by his wife is what led Dhananjaya to agree to drive her for her exams. Soni feels fortunate that she has the support of her husband, who wants her to become a teacher.

The journey was filled with many challenges for the couple, with water flooding the roads due to the heavy rains. The downpour made it difficult for the couple to see ahead, and that scared them. The husband and wife said they had to stop and take shelter under the tree midway through their journey. The only saving grace for them was that their scooter drove well without causing any trouble during their trip. Soni was worried about her unborn child, and the couple decided to get a USG test done to ensure that the baby is fine.

Dhananjaya is a school dropout and works at a catering firm. The couple rented a house for Rs 1500 for 10 days as they couldn’t afford a hotel. With a monthly income of Rs 9000, it was not possible to carry out the expenses. Hence the wife had to mortgage her jewelry to meet the travel expenses. The couple reached Gwalior on 30th August and was soon flooded with calls, including one from the Chief Minister’s office. Dhananjaya was told that the MP government would help them return to Delhi via flight, and further transportation would be arranged to reach their village in Jharkhand.

According to sources, Kaushlendra Singh, the Gwalior collector, had asked health and administrative officials to look after the couple’s needs. Soni had 7 more exams to give and was assured that she and her husband would be taken care of.

Soni lost her father at a very young age and believes that her husband is the only support she has now. She is glad that she has married a very understanding partner who will help her achieve her dreams.

The bumpy roads, potholes, or the heavy rains, nothing stopped this brave couple. Dhananjaya being a school dropout understands the importance of education and hence doesn’t want to miss the opportunity to help his wife. It’s truly inspiring to see people like them who wish to utilize their potential the best way they can and not give up when life gets tough.
