10 Moms Share The Best Thing They Did For Themselves A Week Before Their Due Date

“Go on a date with your husband. You’ll never get this time for yourselves again.” This was one of the best advice I’d got when I was pregnant with my only son. A dinner date we did go. After weeks of wearing drab clothes, it was refreshing to wear something well-fitting, put makeup on, and wear kitten heels (at my own risk). We’d been out for dinners earlier too, but this one was different. Fighting for that last piece of grilled fish (which I won, obviously) still remains as one of our best memory together. When I shared this with a group of close friends and cousins, it triggered an outpour of nostalgic moments. From that gleam in their eyes, it was clear how much each of them cherished those moments narrated by them. Here are the excerpts of the conversation with 10 lovely mothers about the best thing they did for themselves a week before D-Day.

1. Savita Shetty

“For the most part of my pregnancy, I was holed up at home, resting and relaxing. But, when my favorite Bollywood star’s movie released a weekend prior to my due date, I couldn’t resist. I knew it wasn’t safe to visit a cinema hall due to the risk of getting jostled. But, there was no harm in asking my husband for it. He stayed quiet upon hearing my request, but surprised me the same evening with two tickets to the show – Gold Class!”

2. Jabeen Ali

“My legs had been through a lot during the pregnancy, so I decided that my poor legs really deserved to be rewarded. I immediately headed to the parlor and got myself a relaxing pedicure. I’ll have to admit, even when I was pushing the baby out, it felt nice to see my red-tinted toenails.”

3. Salma Siddiqui

“I had stayed quite active during my pregnancy. I also went for regular evening walks with my sibling. But, the night prior to my due date, my husband took me out. We walked hand-in-hand for a long time. It was the coziest and romantic walk we’d had together.”

4. Esha Gupta

“A week before my delivery, we had purchased a cute little cradle. That day, my husband and I spent one of the most memorable moments of our lives assembling the cradle for our little princess.”

5. Samina Shariff

“Five days before my D-Day, all my family members, excluding my husband, had gone out for a late night wedding. It had been a long time since we were alone at home. And then, out of the blue, my husband dimmed the lights, put on a romantic song, and we danced like a madly-in-love-again couple. So romantic!”

6. Hani Qamar

“It was my second time and my first child was very excited to get a ‘new friend to play with’. As I sat packing my hospital bag, I saw my daughter playing her board game, alone. I joined her and we had a crazy time together; something that we haven’t done in a while now.”

7. Joy Jemima

“A week before my due date, I went to get that much-recommended haircut. Since hair-coloring was a total no-no to avoid exposing the fetus to harmful chemicals, I just went for some shocking pink highlights. The end result blew my mind off.”

8. Asma Qawi

“My sister was getting married and I had barely managed to sit through the rituals, for the fear of breaking my water. But when the DJ took charge of the party, I couldn’t resist and managed to shake a leg and come out unscathed. Phew!”

9. Ramona Raj

“I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and was on diet food for the better part of the last trimester. But a day before I was to be induced, I let go and binged on my favorite desserts, with my husband catering to my greed endlessly.”

10. Maria Fatima

“It was a house party to celebrate my getting induced the next morning. All of us cousins gathered in a room reminiscing our childhood pranks and jokes, well past midnight. Though I knew that more sleepless nights will soon follow, I really enjoyed and cherish this one.”

I’m sure these anecdotes might have given you all some due date goals. So, if your due date is around the corner, don’t miss this chance. Plan something simple, yet memorable, and go for it while you still have the time.
