The actress and former model has been vocal about her pregnancy. She shared with us how it wasn’t the easiest period of her life. In most cases, the second pregnancy turns out to be a lot easier than the first pregnancy, but such was not the case with the actress. We’re all in the middle of a pandemic, and this has been particularly hard on women who are pregnant. She said it is challenging to keep yourself and your baby out of harm’s way in such challenging times, particularly when someone around you or someone you care for gets infected.

In addition to navigating the pandemic while being pregnant, Neha Dhupia also spoke about her own experiences with her second pregnancy that wasn’t at all easy. She suffered from severe morning sickness during her pregnancy, and on most days, this was more than she could handle.

Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi, who is also an actor, had tied the knot in a private ceremony in May of 2018. They soon gave birth to Mehr, their little girl. In July this year, the star couple had announced the news of them expecting their second child.

Celebrities are often scrutinized and expected to look perfect even off-screen, no matter what the circumstances. Neha Dhupia had to bear the brunt of such expectations when she was expecting her first child. The actress was fat-shamed and faced a lot of judgment for all the weight she had gained during and after the pregnancy. She said that during pregnancy, she had gained close to twenty-five kilograms, due to which a lot of people had told her that her career and life would come to a standstill. She went on to say that she stood firm and didn’t allow these insensitive comments to get to her, but, sadly, a lot of people have such unrealistic expectations from women who have put their bodies through so much trauma. Weight gain during pregnancy isn’t just normal; it is also essential for both the mother and the child.

The actress shared how, during the lockdown, she took it upon herself to lose all that weight — her weight loss of around twenty-one kilograms is a testimony to this fact!

Physical troubles weren’t all; she also experienced what many women go through — postpartum stress. Your body doesn’t just go through physical changes; your mental health can take the hit, too (1). The actress in a talk show said that she felt as if there was a void that could not be filled soon after the birth of her first child. She also said that she was overwhelmed and overly emotional during this period. This is something that a lot of mothers face, and the best way to navigate through this period is by prioritizing your mental and physical health. It is also essential to know that help is available, and when you’re ready, it is okay to reach out.

Pregnancy and childbirth are important events that put you through a lot of changes (2). All of us need to be understanding of this fact, irrespective of whether a woman is a celebrity or not.
