New Year, New Me: Resolutions That Kids Can Actually Achieve

Although the year 2021 just began, it is almost at the end of the first month. January is the first month of the year, and every year, this is when people make plans to make themselves better. New Year resolutions are part and parcel of a new year. And everyone, right from kids to teens and adults to oldies, set resolutions to turn over a new leaf. But the question is, how many of us actually follow the resolutions we set? You likely set them as a family, and your kids look up to you so they can follow theirs. However, it isn’t easy to follow through, and most of us give up after the first two weeks. So, here are simple resolutions that you and your kids can achieve without going above and beyond:

Every kid is tired of hearing their parents ordering them to clean their room. Everyone can take turns and set aside a few minutes every day to clean up their surroundings and put things back in their respective places this time around. It takes less effort and becomes a habit.

2. Snack Healthy

It’s not the first time you’ve tried to get your kids to eat healthily and failed. Set a resolution to eat one vegetable and one fruit every day. It won’t be a difficult thing to do because it is just one of each. Do it along with your kids, and in no time, they will look forward to it.

3. Sleep On Time

With work from home, online classes, and virtual sessions becoming the norm, the time you and your kids go to bed has passed the reasonable sleeping hours. This year you can decide to go to bed at the right time and get the right amount of sleep.

4. Read A Little More

Reading is an excellent habit that you can inculcate in your kids. Do some light reading every night before bedtime. It helps calm your mind and improves concentration, focus, vocabulary, and attention span. When you do it together as a family, you are more likely to continue it.

5. Get Some Sunshine

Staying indoors all the time deprives your children of the sun’s good rays. The sun gives you vitamin D and is good for your bones. It helps boost your immune system, improves mood and well-being. The best time to enjoy the sun in the morning and evening. Do not step out in the sun during the noon as the rays can be harmful to your skin.

6. Healthy Expression Of Feelings

Kids have many feelings and emotions, but they may not know how to express them the right way. There is often an underlying reason why a kid throws tantrums, and teaching them how to channel their emotions helps them deal with it healthily.

7. Teach Younger Siblings

If you have two or more kids, teach them the importance of bonding with their siblings. They could teach each other songs and dances, tell each other stories and help each other with homework and school projects. Siblings who spend time together from a young age build a strong bond of love, which is likely to stay even when they grow older.

Children love little challenges and appreciation. Even these resolutions might not be easy for a kid to follow, but there are ways to encourage them to do it. Firstly, set an example and follow your resolution. You could also make a monthly calendar and tick the boxes of everything you have accomplished. If your kids break a resolution, do not be hard on them. Tell them it’s okay, and they can try again tomorrow. What is your new year’s resolution? Comment below and let us know.
