It’s the year 2021, but the role of a woman in society has not evolved. It’s pretty alarming to see young women being taunted for not being married at a certain age. So what if she does not want to tie the knot at 25? Why can’t she pursue her career and put off getting married until she is ready? Women have to follow a certain pattern, and if they don’t, society is not kind to them. Marriage at 23, baby one at 25, and baby number two at 29 — this is the pattern that women are expected to follow in our society. Anything other than this pattern is looked down upon, judged, and criticized. But it’s great to see lots of women questioning this mindset and living life on their own terms.
From Sushmita Sen, who adopted two girls and raised them as a single parent, to Farah Khan, who had triplets via IVF at 43, women broke barriers. They refused to conform to society’s ridiculous rules and standards. Indian television actress Kishwer Merchant is another example of such a woman. She did not care about the pressure she faced from society and waited until she was ready to have a baby. At the age of 40, she became pregnant with her first baby, calling it a gift from God, proving that no pregnancy is late pregnancy. Read this article to know more.
Kishwer Merchant married Suyyash Rai in December 2016. She received a lot of pressure to have a baby immediately because of the age difference. She is eight years older than her husband. In an interview with a popular news agency, Kishwer said she was being pressured to have a baby. Other couples getting pregnant during the lockdown was not the only factor, but the age difference also played a big role in her family members’ pressure. They said that it had been four years since they got married and it was time that they had a baby.
The actress said that the pregnancy was not planned, and they were pleasantly surprised when they received the news. She stated that she had several questions to ask her doctor when she found out about her pregnancy. But her doctor assured her that everything would be okay. Kishwer said that she has cousins who delivered at 40 and 42, which only proves that age is not a problem. She added that things are changing right now, and there is no need to have babies at 20 or 24. Kishwer said that with lifestyle changes, healthy eating, and regular exercise, delivering a baby at 40 is not an issue.
The Indian actress proves the concept that 40 is the new 30. Her pregnancy at 40 was a smooth one. It was an unplanned pregnancy, and the two of them (Suyyash and Kishwer) were shocked. She said that after giving it some thought, they realized that it was supposed to happen this way. Although they were planning to wait for two more years, they are happy that it happened. Kishwer stated that she feels lucky and blessed as people plan a lot and go through a lot to get pregnant, but they didn’t have to because it was a smooth process.
On Holi, Kishwer shared pictures on Instagram of them celebrating the festival with her friends, family, and husband. The picture she shared with Suyyash is too adorable to miss. They celebrated Holi and splashed some color on her baby bump too. When Kishwer Merchant married the man of her dreams, who was eight years younger, she broke all stereotypes. And now, she has done it again with her pregnancy at 40. It only shows that no pregnancy is late pregnancy, and we have to stop pressuring women into having babies because of a “ticking biological clock”.
