'Pokemon Go' Influencing Baby Names Is The Latest Craze

In the recent times, there has been a surge in baby names that are influenced by the ‘Pokemom Go’ phenomenon. It appears that the past year, the name Roselia has risen 5,859 spots while Onyx has gone up 2,184 spots, and Eevee soared up 1,377 spots.

Usually, parents look up to the contemporary culture for inspiration for their baby names. But off late, the craze for the game has grown so much that it is natural for parents to adopt the names of Pokemon characters. Certainly there is a reignition of the love for the game, as is displayed by parents’ choice of these names.

Pokemon like Ivysaur, Starmie, and Shayman might also have an impact on the name trends. Apparently, Star has risen 2,040 spots for girls while Ivy has gone up by 1,287 spots for boys. Shay soared up 369 places for girls and 64 for boys since the past one year. The main character in the game, Ash, is up over 200 spots. Now isn’t that trendy? These names are touching the sky and seem to be limitless.

As it appears people hadn’t named their child Onyx for centuries. The trend started only in the ’90s. Onyx in Pokemon is the snake-shaped Pokemon, made up entirely of rocks.

Eevee is a cute Pokemon that is can grow into a number of different kinds of strong Pokemon. It is popular and the favorite of many.

Interestingly, almost fifty percent of mothers play Pokemon Go. So it may not be far-fetched to think that the game could have quite an impact on the mothers in the choice of Pokemon names.

Pokemon names Manky and Muk are less popular – in the best interest of children. We could have hopes pinned on some human Pidgeys throw tiny red balls at each other very soon.

If giving human babies Pokemon names was not enough, a woman in Florida who found a stray cat a couple of weeks ago, named it Mewtwo. The woman named Carey Burns happened to hear the little kitten crying near her flat and thought of naming it after the character from the game.

As of now we might not be able to say how many new parents would call their children Venonat or Bulbasaur. But we could have our fingers crossed for a new generation of kids who might be called Jigglypuffs or Mewtwos!
