5 Things No One Tells You About Potty Training

As a new parent, there are several challenges that you face. Surviving sleepless nights, changing dirty diapers, waking up in the middle of the night for feedings, and dealing with perpetual exhaustion are just a few things people tell you about parenthood. You might be well prepared to raise a baby, but no matter how many books you read, mommy blogs you follow, or conversations you have with experienced parents when the time comes, you are bound to be taken by surprise.

As your child grows up, you have to teach them values and discipline. How to be polite, behave, and what’s right and wrong are things you have to teach them. It’s a tough job, but it’s your responsibility to raise your kids as good citizens. However, these responsibilities come later on as your baby grows up. But there is one thing that every parent absolutely has to train their babies with, and that is potty training. It can be a tricky thing as every child is different, and no one talks about it. But we are here to help you. Here are five things no one tells you about potty training:

  • It Doesn’t Make Your Life Easier

You would think that potty training will make things easier for you, but sadly, it doesn’t. After using diapers for the first two years or so, the thought of watching them because your kid is potty trained sounds like a dream come true. But you will learn that it’s not easy because when your toddler has to go, they have to go right away, and nothing stops them. Not even the absence of a loo.

  • Three-Day Training Is A Load Of Crap

Several blogs and articles online say that you can potty train your baby in three days. But that’s just a load of crap. If your child is not ready, no amount of golden stars, magic stickers, or claps can get them fully potty trained in three days. Besides, even if they are trained, there are bound to be slip-ups now and then.

  • There Is No Fixed Age

Ideally, the age when you start potty training your baby is when they reach two. Some parents start by 18 months or so, but your toddler most likely will not be fully potty trained by two. It might take them a year or two to completely get it, which might take up to 3-4 years. Sure, there is a good chance that your toddler will be potty trained by two but be prepared for it to take longer.

  • It Takes A While To Get Used To

It’s quite easy to get your baby to poop in a potty, but the challenge is to make that a practice. For reasons unknown, many kids refuse to poop in a potty and, as a result, do not poop. It makes things a lot more complicated because your kid might end up not pooping for days. But don’t worry, because it takes a while for them to get used to it.

  • Be Prepared For Unexpected Accidents

No matter how much you prepare your child, there will be accidents at the most unexpected moments. Therefore, when your child is in the learning stage, always carry spare clothes and diapers. Accidents can happen when you least expect it, and you’ll be stuck in a helpless situation.

Potty training can be challenging for parents, but you have to trust that it will eventually happen, and your toddlers will learn to use the loo. It can be one of the most difficult and frustrating experiences for a parent and might exhaust you. But remember that it will be worth it in the end.
