8 Pregnancy "Milestones" That Totally Deserve Celebration

The minute we mention “pregnancy milestones”, we immediately start thinking of the trimesters, fetal growth milestones, etc. In short, everything from a medical perspective. However, with the primary focus being on the growing baby, the impact that pregnancy has on a woman’s lifestyle gets totally ignored. Something a woman prioritizes even above herself. But the fact is, at times, things get so difficult for a pregnant woman, that performing simple routine chores might seem like a Herculean task for her. And going by the kind of hardships she faces, it is no menial achievement, mind you! So let us, for a change, put the spotlight on some of these tasks. Here goes:

By the time most of you discovered that you were pregnant, you would have probably completed 3-4 weeks of it. Yet, even after that if you continued to take the public transport to work or for other chores, then kudos to you!! Generally, when women come to know that they are pregnant, they are asked to take things slow. But in today’s times, where a woman is constantly on the move, riding a public transport with all the pushing and jostling definitely deserves respect.

So you have an important family wedding. Or, it’s your best friend’s wedding and you have to be her bridesmaid, come what may! What do you do, especially with your baby bump? You oblige. Not only with your presence, but also dressing up in an outfit that did nothing to flatter your current shape. Cheers to your bravery for showing up in the first place!

You are about to heave a sigh of relief once you enter the relatively ‘safe’ second trimester when – bang! This test drops on you out of nowhere. The 3-hour-long test that you might take will make it seem like the longest hours of your life. And the fact that you are advised to eat nothing in between makes it worse. With more and more women being diagnosed with gestational diabetes, this test is now an inseparable part of pregnancy. So there, one more milestone – achieved!

4. Squeezed Through Grocery Store Shelves

Your belly may be growing. But your neighborhood grocer definitely didn’t have that in mind when he arranged those shelves closer. With grocery shopping being your ‘territory’, you have no other option but to accommodate. And, if you managed to safely and successfully squeeze through those narrow lanes, you surely deserve a pat on your back!

5. Readied Your Hospital Bag Yourself

A pregnant woman can at times also become a living example of self-sufficiency. You may just be a few days or weeks ahead of your D-Day. Then how could you not set about getting your hospital bag ready? And if you did it all by yourself, hats off to you!!

6. Cooked A Full Course Meal

When you are pregnant, it is quite normal for relatives and friends to frequently drop in. Some of them even carry food so as not to trouble you. But there could be times when someone arrives unannounced and unprepared. You head to your kitchen, get your hands on whatever you can, and whip up a full course meal like a Queen! We salute you, lady!

7. Shaved Your Legs During The Last Trimester

This is the most testing phase of the pregnancy when your bump is fully grown. So much so that you are unable to see your toes. Yet, you know you can’t go into labor with your legs full of hair. So, one night if you sat through with an aching back and shortness of breath to shave your legs, you deserve a loving hug!

8. Gave Birth

All those hardships you faced so far pales in comparison to what you achieved in the end. You gave birth! You got a life into this world! This surely calls for a celebration!

We’re sure most of you mothers would have been able to relate to some of these situations. If you all did any or all of these tasks during your pregnancy, then remember they are all milestones worth celebrating. Let’s raise a toast then! Cheers!
