The complicated, terrifying, and joyful world of pregnancy comes with plenty of lies and truths. From crazy myths to the brutal honesty, somebody or the other is always ranting on and on about the different “facts” of being pregnant and going through labour. However, keep in mind that every woman has a different experience. Be it good or bad, you can’t really compare because every person reacts to a certain situation in certain ways. That being said, some women come up with absolute nonsense when it comes to pregnancy, so try not to believe everything you hear.

Freaking out a bit? Don’t worry because we are clearing the air between the lies and truth of being pregnant. So keep reading to see what’s legit and what’s not. Oh, before we begin, keep in mind that the truth may or may not be what you want to hear. But hey, at least it’s better than following a lie!

Lies

  1. You know how some people look at you and go, “That pregnancy glow really suits you!” Well, hate to break it to you, but there is no actual glow.
  1. Another famous lie is that the notorious morning sickness ends after the first trimester. However, this is untrue to an extent because a lot of women get morning sickness in the other trimesters, it may be bad or it may subside, but it’s still there. On the other hand, some women don’t even get morning sickness. Lucky them.
  1. Apparently when you first feel your little one kick, that’s when the pregnancy gets real. But pregnancy gets pretty darn real well before your baby kicks.
  1. Some people have said that after birth you will forget about labour pain. Sadly, this is not true, how much ever you wish it away.
  1. Your baby weight disappears once you begin to breastfeed? We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but ha! No such luck, ladies.

Truths

  1. You feel sweaty more often than not. It’s uncomfortable, but true. Your hormones are going nuts, you get hot flushes, and you always need to be near a fan/air conditioning.
  1. Morning sickness can last during the whole pregnancy! Yes, this is true. Some women really have had morning sickness during the whole pregnancy process. Also, it’s not necessarily just “morning” sickness. It can even be all day sickness!
  1. Going back to when you first feel your baby kick. A lot of women say it’s an amazing feeling, or that it seems so surreal. However, the honest truth is that the first kick is actually really creepy! It happens to feel pretty weird, and when you can see it, the creepiness hits the roof!
  1. You will never forget labour pain. We are sure most of the women out there agree with this. Anybody who disagrees, care to share your experience? We’ve been told time and again how painful, uncomfortable, and awful labour pains can be along with the labour process. This is more or less a well-known fact worldwide, so we’re not going to go on and on.
  1. Another point that holds true for many, many women out there is that baby weight doesn’t go that easily! Yes, there are plenty of ways to lose weight, especially baby weight, but you have to be careful. You have to wait until your body is fully healed and you have to ensure you have a healthy and nutritious diet for breastfeeding and other reasons. And of course, who ever said exercise and losing weight was easy? Hard work pays off!
