Think ‘global domination’ and the only name that comes to your mind is Priyanka Chopra! From Hollywood award ceremonies to her own Jodhpur wedding, she seems to be all over the place nowadays. The same seems to be the case with her namesake – Priyanka Gandhi! Of course, she’s always being around, you’d say. Yes, but she was never in the forefront either – like now. Suddenly, the whole world now seems to be obsessed with these two wonderful ladies. And, like everyone else, we too can’t have enough of talking about them. Here’s why:

Yes, she married someone 10 years younger than her – so what? This is exactly the kind of attitude that Priyanka embodies. And it is this attitude that makes her all the more empowering. She is fearless and ready to take everything head-on, come what may. She knows where to speak up and where to let her work speak for herself. Having arrived on the scene way back in 2000 with a Miss World win, even her journey into Bollywood wasn’t easy. But she stuck to her guns and soon became one of those rare actresses who fought for pay parity in the entertainment industry. She did not restrict her talent and made new inroads in Hollywood with successful TV and movie stints. Even on the personal front, whether it was her being the sole Indian guest at the British Royal wedding or her very own lavish wedding to American heartthrob – Nick Jonas – everything she does makes news. So much so that most of her colleagues who headed to Hollywood following in her footsteps credit her for putting Indian artistes on the global map.

Pee Cee also showed the world how to handle pitfalls with dignity. From standing like a rock throughout her father’s illness, handling break-ups with utmost dignity, to shutting down trolls, she did it all. She runs a successful production house that encourages new talent in regional cinema (another first) among other things. Currently, this UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and National Award-winning actress is basking in the glory of her achievements and also that of her husband’s as his hit single – Sucker – featuring her tops the Billboard charts.

If Pee Cee does it with fierceness and boldness, then Priyanka Gandhi is the epitome of dignified calm and grace. Despite belonging to an illustrious political family, she preferred to settle into domesticity and take care of her family. Simple and modest, she makes occasional public appearances. Even then, she chooses to remain in the background. Despite staying away from the limelight for so long, the general public still roots for her as an ideal PM candidate. Such is her personality’s aura and charm that it wouldn’t be wrong to say that her’s is the most awaited political debut ever. And, when she finally did foray into active politics recently, her debut speech in Gujarat won her a million more followers. With a simple yet significant change in her speech, she began by addressing “meri behno” (sisters) first instead of the customary “bhaiyon” (brothers). This change proved to be so significant that it soon struck a chord with all women seeking their rightful position in society.

Again, her modesty was on full display when a colleague tweeted highlighting this and she responded by saying how she didn’t think that anyone would notice it. Isn’t that simply endearing? In today’s age, where each politician praises himself to the skies or harks about achievements he’s made in his imagination, Priyanka Gandhi comes across as a breath of fresh air. It is no wonder then that she’s admired by a lot of women from all walks of life – the educated middle class, a farmer’s wife or even those teens who simply like her ‘bob’. And let’s just say, we can’t wait to hear another speech from her where we women are addressed as sisters first and the rest follows!
