The Pros to Finding Out (and Not Finding Out) Your Baby’s Gender

Some like to keep it a secret until the final push happens and they get to see the baby with their own eyes. Other parents like to know if it’s a baby girl or a boy beforehand so that they can be prepared. Or because they are too excited to wait till the labor to know their baby’s gender. Finding out if it’s a girl or a boy is totally up to the parents. And there are also some countries who don’t allow revealing the gender until after the birth. Let’s not go overboard with planning and buying stuff. But knowing the gender can help you buy the right kinds of clothes, shoes, and blankets early on. And you can also decide if you want a blue or pink car seat if you are into that sort of thing. You can also decorate the baby room in a particular color or theme based on gender.

#2: You Can Start Monogramming

Some parents love personalization. They love getting their nursery, crib sheets, diaper bags, etc monogrammed. You can also monochrome the onesies which look really cute. And knowing about the baby’s gender can help you get started.

#3: You Already Know

There are a lot of things that you are clueless about when it comes to pregnancy. You cannot know for sure if you are going to have a normal delivery or taken for a C-section the last minute due to some complications. You might not know all the things about pregnancy and childbirth. And raising a baby might be a totally alien territory for you. In such an upheaval, you can probably do away with one more unknown thing in your life.

#4: You Feel More Connected To Your Little One

Once you know the gender, you already know a little bit about your child. You can speak to and think about your baby more specifically. Knowing if it’s a boy or girl can help you foster a deeper connection with your baby.

#5: Picking Out A Name Becomes Easy

Parents start thinking of names towards the end of their pregnancy. And instead of picking out names from both genders, you can focus on one. You don’t have to wait until after childbirth to decide on a name. However, if you are going for gender-neutral names, you will have enough time to think about one.

The Pros Of NOT Finding Out Your Baby’s Gender

Yes, believe it or not, there are pros to not finding out the gender too. Here are a few of them:

#1: It’s Exciting

There’s the fun element of not knowing about your baby’s gender until childbirth. You will be looking forward to your delivery for the surprise reveal.

#2: You Don’t Get Wrong Info

There are cases where the midwife or the doctor tell parents the wrong gender of the baby. People buy all sorts of things and make decoration based on gender. With not knowing, there’s no risk of getting misinformed and wasting all that money.

#3: You Can Place Bets

So what if you cannot have a gender reveal party? You can still have fun. Organize a party while you’re still pregnant and ask people to guess the gender of the baby. Your friends and family are going to have a fun time guessing the baby’s gender and placing bets.

If you choose not to find out, you can always go for neutral tones and palettes when it comes to rooms, crib and baby clothes instead of being gender appropriate. Finding out the baby’s gender or letting it be a surprise – it is your choice! And more than the gender of the baby, all that parents really wish for is a healthy and a happy baby.
