5 Reasons Why It Can Be Hard To Live With Your Parents After A Certain Point In Life

The relationship that we share with our parents can have its own bittersweet moments. Of course, we love them to death and would do anything we possibly can to safeguard them from all harm. Yet, despite having our best interests in mind, parents can be overbearing sometimes. No matter how old you are, your parents always seem to see you as their baby.

After a certain point in life, it is understandable if you need your own space to leave and breathe in. A bit of independent space where you can tackle the blessings and perils of adulthood on your own. Granted, most parents would be hurt by this perspective, and you will miss the coddling, if not the homemade food. However, there are bigger factors at play here. Therefore, as growing adults themselves, if you put your point across rationally and sensibly, sooner or later your parents will come to terms with it. Here we bring forth some of the reasons why it can be hard for you to live with your parents after a certain point in your life.

When you come back home from work, there are certain pleasures that you might want to indulge in. Be it playing video games, streaming some content on the big screen, playing music, jamming with your buddies, or just partaking an occasional glass of wine at the end of a long day. However, when you are living with your parents, you cannot do so comfortably. They prefer the routine they have been used to for so many years. To appease them and maintain the peace in your house, you might need to lower the music volume, leave the TV alone for the evening news, pause your video game to sit with visiting relatives, or just attend a somber family evening. As an adult, you deserve your own time and space to create your own routine that indulges in the pursuits that keep you sane after a stressful day.

2. Parents Can Be Controlling

Of course, parents behave like they are entitled to their opinions on every nitty-gritty in your life. After all, they brought you in this world and nurtured you into the fine human you are today. However, the line between caring and being overprotective blurs when they get controlling about every minute decision you make or how you choose to live your life.

3. Ill-prepared To Live Alone

Living with one’s parents right until your adulthood can make one oblivious to the harsh realities of surviving in this world. With no responsibility for paying your bills and dues in time, you always have a safety net to fall back on. Getting your independent space for yourself will come with its list of responsibilities. It will also be your first step to be the self-dependent being we all aspire to be.

4. Freedom

As much as you love your parents, it is okay for you to crave your space to indulge in the lifestyle you choose. When staying with parents you might have to follow rules which are completely avoidable if you are living alone. For instance, you can finally get that pet you always wanted or hold a house party and invite all your friends over for a sleepover.

5. Pressure To Live According To Someone Else’s Rules

The idea of right and wrong can be very subjective. In other words, it can vary from person to person. Growing up in a different time than yours, you and your parents might differ greatly on what is the right way to live. It is not one major decision, but every small thing such as what time you should wake up in the morning or by what time you should go to sleep. Having your own space can help you create your own rules, understand what is right from wrong through the old school trial and error method.
