The Man's Role While Trying To Conceive

It takes two to tango! This saying holds true for all those couples who wish to conceive and plan a family. The moment a couple makes this decision, the woman often takes the center stage. Since she will be the one bearing the child once they successfully conceive, everything about conception is thought to revolve around her. Her basal body temperature is taken into account. Her menstrual cycles are tracked. All in the hope of arriving at the right ovulation dates so that the couple can indulge in intercourse to conceive. But then, does a man have any role to play in the process of trying to conceive apart from just contributing his best swimmers?

As much as a man’s role is neglected in this process, it is equally important, if not more, to that of a woman’s. But the sad part is, no man ever gets asked about it. But not to worry, boys! We, at MomJunction, have your back. So, listen up ladies – here’s what your men probably don’t need if you are planning to conceive. This might, in turn, help them contribute better to the process. Here goes:

Switch Off The Pressure

Some people can perform better under pressure. But that is strictly for working professionals and not lovemaking. The whole thought of getting between the sheets to make babies can put a lot of pressure on the mind, making men lose focus. The result could be anything from failing to perform to something as uncool as reduced motility of the sperm.

Remove The Time Table

Of course, you need the calendar to chart your ovulation dates. You also need that thermometer around to ensure your basal body temperature is just right. Great! Except for one thing – all these preparations are mood killers. Your man knows what you are heading toward. But don’t make it look like a boring boardroom presentation. Try scented candles, kinky nightwear, or glamorous bed sheets for a change.

Spare The Details

When was the last time you ladies bought a smartphone? All you would be concerned about is probably the features you are looking for. Does it look glam? Is it lightweight? Is the camera good enough for great pictures? Etc. But you might not bother about its technical features that the salesman rattles about, right? Similarly, men don’t need minute details about the anatomical process of conception. Just tell them only that which they need to know – like what position works best. Period.

Ease Things Out A Bit

It’s not that men don’t care. They do. In fact, a lot. If you have problems and issues, they can even fix it for you then and there. But if you tell them that the ‘then and there’ is supposed to take place a week later when they are in the mood ‘now’, then it won’t work. This can again create unnecessary pressure that could affect performance. Agreed that time is of the essence. So, to balance things out, do indulge in some off-the-timetable lovemaking as well. Make it a bit of a routine so that when the right moment strikes, your boy delivers his best.

Remember, Its A Team Effort

Finally, as frustrated as you might be, remember that you are both into it. Your man is probably as disappointed as you but he may simply not say as he puts up a strong front. He needs the baby as much as you do. So, be there to support him and appreciate his efforts as well.

The journey towards conceiving can be hard for any couple. It can take a toll on you physically and emotionally as well. But in the end, those two pink lines on the test strip will give you enough reasons to celebrate together!
