The Back Story

Jace Larke was 4,000 km away from his wife Allison when she gave birth to their third son. At work he had an assignment that needed him to be on site, which, sadly, forced him to miss one of life’s happiest and incredible moments for a parent – the birth of his child. Samsung came to the rescue, as they have a device that allowed Jace to witness the birth using virtual reality technology!

Allison and Jace reside in Perth, although he was at work all the way in a remote part of Queensland. So even though they were poles apart, they were still able to experience the birth of their child together, but virtually! Jace works very hard, travels a lot, and isn’t home as much as he likes to be. He says, “It’s tough, but in the long term it’ll benefit us.” Meanwhile, Allison got emotional and agreed with how hard it is, especially because she had to go through many things on her own.

It’s true when the narrator says, “Everybody misses out on precious moments and it does take its toll on people.”

How It Works

The Samsung device, known as the Samsung Gear vr, is a headset of sorts that allows you to see things from another location. It’s almost as if you’re right there. So in this case, Jace could see the entire delivery room and felt as if he was actually in the room with his wife.

Now that you’ve watched the video, you must be thinking its crazy how it worked so well, aren’t you? As people stated, it’s “a fascinating testament to how far technology has come.” This is the ultimate device to ensure you don’t miss life-changing moments that you will remember forever.

For the first time ever, Samsung, through technology, could help bring people together. Now you can share moments with your loved ones instead of being left out. So in this case Jace wears the headgear-like device while Allison goes into labour. Prior to this, she herself tried the device and was absolutely amazed. For example, she said, “Oh my god, this is crazy. I can’t wait for him to watch.”

In the video, when Allison is officially on the way to the hospital, Samsung sets up the world’s first live virtual reality birth with Samsung Gear vr. Jace puts it on and it’s like he’s in the delivery room! He can see the whole room – every angle, every corner. He can even see behind him (in the deliver room)! Oh, and both the parents-to-be can even talk to each other.

As the process begins, Jace can literally see the baby coming out. The adorable bundle of joy scrunches his face while Mommy cuddles up to him. Even for Jace, there’s nothing better than seeing his baby for the first time. He came home a week later! His boys ran up to him and finally, he met his youngest son! For the second time. It was a tearful and happy reunion.

If you’re shedding some tears after watching, don’t worry, because so did we.
