Shocking: Women Can Get Pregnant Through Anal Sex

Getting pregnant by having anal sex might seem like a joke if you’ve never heard of that! You might want to get ready to face some reality.

It could happen as in the case of a woman who conceived when she had anal sex with her partner, due to cloacal malformation.

Dr. Brian Steixner, a urologist, who treated this woman of the condition says that at least 50,000 people in the US suffer the rare condition. A cloacal malformation involves the vagina, the rectum and the urethra open in a common tube instead of three separate tubes thereby draining the fluids into one channel.

The woman underwent a surgery ten years ago to rectify her condition, but it went wrong. There has been a small hole that connects her rectum to the womb.

Dr. Steixer and his team had followed their patient for almost a decade. From the series of X-rays they figured out that she had got pregnant by having anal sex.

Since the woman would have had a risky natural birth, she underwent a C-section to deliver her child.

A cloacal malformation is also known as persistent cloaca and is one of the biggest challenges in pediatric surgery. The condition usually occurs in girls. It compromises with urinary control, bowel control and sexual function including menstruation, intercourse and obstetric issues. Cloacal malformation treatment involves an anatomical reconstruction to achieve the three functions.

The most common way to rectify the condition in the recent past was to repair the rectal component either without making any changes to the urogenital sinus or by making any necessary changes later in life.

Depending on the degree of malformation, a perineal approach is employed to urogenital sinus in the case of low defects. Abdominal approach is taken in certain other defects. A posterior sagittal approach was employed for the first time in 1982 to repair an imperforate anus.
