Popular TV Actress Shweta Tiwari Speaks Up About Leaving Unhealthy Marriage For Her Kids' Well Being

We all dream of meeting our Mr. Right at some point in our life and walking away in the sunset toward our ‘happily ever after’. However, reality can be quite different than such dreams. The whole idea of a ‘right person’ or the marriage being ‘perfect’ itself is illogical, to begin with. Human beings are imperfect and relationships can be flawed too. So, if your marriage fails for the first time due to certain reasons, it does make sense to give love and marriage a second chance. But what if your second marriage is on the rocks too – will you continue with a toxic relationship? Or have the courage to end it in the better interest of the family, especially if kids are involved? While common sense demands that we go with the latter, not many of us have the courage to do so. Why? Because we think too much about how society will judge us. In the end, we end up jeopardizing our own happiness that eventually affects the kids too. And this was something popular TV actress, Shweta Tiwari, was not ready to compromise on.

Shweta Tiwari shot to fame in the 90s when she portrayed the iconic character of ‘Prerna’ in the popular TV serial – Kasautii Zindagii Kay. Later, she had also won the 4th season of the reality show Bigg Boss which was also the first season hosted by Bollywood actor Salman Khan. In 1998, Shweta had married Raja Chaudhary who is a Bhojpuri actor. Together they had a daughter named Palak. In 2007, Shweta had divorced Raja due to his alcoholism and domestic violence after 9 years of marriage.

Being a doting mom, Shweta brought up her daughter Palak single-handedly. Until she found love again when she met Abhinav Kohli. After dating for almost 3 years, both of them tied the knot in July 2013. In November 2016, the happy couple was thrilled to announce the birth of their son – Reyansh. Soon after, rumors of trouble in the paradise started doing the rounds. While Shweta did clarify on some of them, the rumors refused to die. Eventually, in August 2019, Shweta filed a domestic violence complaint against Abhinav. At this stage, many started pointing fingers at Shweta because this was the second time she was facing such relationship issues. But being the strong woman that she is, Shweta stood her ground. She finally dared to walk out of her toxic marriage. However, as it happens with most women in a similar situation, despite her celebrity status, Shweta too was not spared of judgmental remarks and comments. Throughout this tough phase, Shweta maintained a dignified silence.

She chose the right time to respond to her critics. She made a remarkable comeback on TV with a new show – Mere Dad Ki Dulhan. At the promotions of the show, the same questions were fired at her. During an interview with a leading daily, Shweta declared that she’ll always do what is right for her kids and their future. She said that her marriage was like an infection which was badly hurting her. And when she could take it no more, she chose to remove the infection. She further went on to say that the infection was poisonous and required its removal so she could stay healthy and happy. She said that now she was happy and ready to do everything for the welfare of her kids. Her 19-year-old daughter Palak has strongly stood by her mother.

Shweta says that just because things go wrong in a marriage even during the second time, it doesn’t mean that one has to stick to that relationship. By doing so, we end up compromising on our children’s welfare too. She urged all such women who were stuck in a toxic marriage due to societal pressure to come out of it.

While life may not have been too fair to Shweta at a personal level, she has been going great guns professionally. We wish Shweta the very best for her new show – Mere Dad Ki Dulhan!
